Description These are a pair of gates I constructed for my final project at college. They are made purely with hammer and anvil, no welding, no grinding, just traditional skills. I am proud to say they won a trophy when shown at an agricultural show last year, and sealed my graduation from college.

wow, those are beautiful! I have done some metal work, we started with hammer an anvil and made nails and it was one of the most physically demanding my art practice has brought me to do so far. I fell in love with it! These are absolutely wonderful!! All of your hard work, sweat and effort really paid off!

This is amazing! One this that I did notice, however, is that the gates have less metal than your body

Thanks for your appreciation. Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is stock?

Meltys-stock In reply to Steelspike [2009-09-23 10:28:52 +0000 UTC]

Stock is a pic used by manipulators to make another image.
For example: [link]
To make this artwork, I used different stock images, as you can see in the description ^^

holy crap, no welds?! That is amazingly beautiful work and far more intricate than I would have thought possible.

Thanks, it was going to have leaves on the ivy vines, but decided it would be too much. Probably the only time I have ever managed to stop myself before going that step too far with a piece.

now, if i were to do this, i would have used a solid clay for the mushrooms with a bronze finish to get more detail, and might add fairies....but thats just cause i'm a critic perfectionist 11 year old. so yeah. if you posted it on cutoutandkeep.net with a tute, everyone would LOVE you!! now i ish going to get food.

The use of clay and paint would sort of defeat the traditional, skillful dimension; the fact that this was made with simple tools is part of what makes it so amazing, I think. (;

I'll have to keep you in mind for when I get to work on my cob house (Currently in various stages of planning). Your metal work is something else and I can only imagine it making my house look even better. Mind you, I'm working to finish up college first so it'll be a bit but if you're still around I may have some jobs for you. ^-^

Steelspike In reply to Darklight13 [2009-09-22 00:54:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, unless you finish college in 50 years or so I hope I will still be around! I would be most happy to do anything you need for your house, especially such a green house. I am always willing to trade with other artists if that helps

Darklight13 In reply to Steelspike [2009-09-26 01:16:24 +0000 UTC]

Well I'm hoping it happens before 50 years, I'd rather not be in school that long. Its making me crazy as is and I've got at least 5ish years to go. My goal is an MFA. I'm real excited about what a person can do with cob so I can't wait till I can make this house a reality. ^-^ Hmmm, trade would be nice. Not really sure what I'd have to bring to the table but it is nice to know that option is there. I just hope it won't take to long after to school to bring my house to life.
