Description **Edit-I updated the picture with photoshop, I gave it more contrast so its darker and I felt like giving the eyes a splash of color

WOW-this turned out so good for me!! Im really happy about this one...The reference photo was by Blue Black and it was her Teach Me How To Drown' photo. If you havent seen it you should seriously check it out here -> [link]
Anyway....on the actual photo, even though I impressed myself, i know it still has flaws. For one the hair wasnt done very well, could use more depth and less angles....but you kno you can only improve so much in one drawing. All c/c welcome.

I loved this picture so much I wanted to write a poem about it, so I did. Umm...I think I should stick with drawing in this case but if you like it Id appreciate it if youd tell me. I think the middle part is a little wierd, it doesnt really fit in...Do you think i should get rid of it? OR..(this is the creative me working here) do you think i should put it at the end and add another line to 'finish' the piece'??? Huh that might not be such a bad idea after all......

...She is drowning all alone,
In waters black with sorrow...

...What are the chances I will see her,
Swimming there tomorrow?...

I lose myself,
Into the eyes,
That speak of mysteries,
I cannot devise,
Of pain and sorrow,
Ive never known,
I try to tell her,
Shes not alone,
But there is a wall,
Between her and me,
That I cannot reach,
That I cannot see,
It seems I watch,
From far away,
A silent movie,
In black and grey... <-(hint hint!!!)
And as I watch,
Her drown away,
I drown inside,
Those eyes of grey, (again!)
Shes far too lost,
To find her way,
Im going under,
With her today,

I love that picture.... I found it ever so long ago on a blog and saved it to my compy so i could always find it and look back at it since I didn't know where the original came from at the time...

That poem you wrote to go along with it is just beautiful, it reminds me a lot of me and someone close to me... Such a sad picture, such a sad poem I love it

I wrote a story for my english class 2 years ago, because i saw the original photo of this then used it for the front cover and even though i got in late i got 3 "A's" for it.

its a about a girl who's best friend dies in a car crash and she gets into all this bad shit, and she's out surfing one day and passes out on her bored, and this guy saves her and yeah, they fall in love and all that shit, and one day they go to a party together and something gets put in her dirnk or something and she stops breathing and all this shit happene's and it talks about drowning in her own air and stuff, and it was rather hauntingly powerful... because the girl was me

nicely done, But the eyes need a bit of a different type of coloring job, to give them more depth.

ill look into that but Im not exactly a genius with photoshop...do you mean they need to change colors in a few specific areas? Or just a different color altogether? I can do the latter, but to have a couple different colors would require a wacom tablet

no, I could do an example to show you how to do a basic one and I'm doing it with a trackball.

it's a special type of mouse, the ones where all you move is this ball, the mouse doesn't move, you just roll the ball around.

It looks really nice, though I have seen other images with everythin grayscale cept the eyes. But what can I say, eyes are so beautiful and expressive, I've thought about doing one myself. But this piece is beautiful, and I agree that the hair could use highlights. But personally, I'm not in the habit of redoing pieces. I feel that when you create something you're always going to find some flaws with it, so you learn from your mistakes and make a better piece next time. But that's just me.

I like the hair the way it is so that wont change even if i get everyone saying it needs a highlight-besides that would take way too much effort and id risk ruining it. Yeah...there have been a lot of 'just the eyes' colored images, but I like mine all the same. Besides, the blue really brings out the 'drowning' effect. Thanks for the comment

thanks-it actually inspires me to start drawing again....knowing its possible for me to achieve this....of course it lacks almost any detail besides the hair and the eyes so it wasnt that hard to draw

(well technically anyway, still spent forever on it!!)

Well i must say that out of all your drawings this was the one i find to be your best work and the most realistic...the rest of your work is not up to par in comparison to this...and i could still comment on the size of the actual eyes...i think what makes this drawing so great is the smooth shading and light in the eyes and the hair across the face...i love that effect. Adding the moonlight to the eyes is a cool effect, but you DO realize this particular variation isn't supposed to be under traditional art because it's digitally enhanced to a point where it's obvious...blah blah blah...anyways i still like this a lot

(you should try darking the area of the iris that's in shadow by the upper lid to add more depth to the color)

I like the drawing, but you could use a little more contrast. Every time you draw something in black and white try to make something a rediciously dark black and a casanova blinding white. The more contrast the better, just as long as there's still midtones. Cool eyes. I like how the hair is scraggily, too.

Thanks!! Yeah, I like how midnight darks and bright whites contrast too, but when I made this I didn't understand that concept as well as I did now. My goal is to someday edit this...maybe Ill use photoshop if i can ever get that program

beautifully done...upon entering your gallery i was immediately drawn to this one. I love the eyes...my only criticism on them is that the eyes seem a bit tooo bid, or round. i love the element of the hair through to photo...i started a drawing like this somewhere and now that it hink about it i have no idea where it is and it had started out really good! hmmm anyways enough about me i see you avoided the nose, only noticed upon full view because the hair there is distracting but its odd that there doesn't seem to be anything there.

anyways! beautiful drawing

Yeah the picture really didnt have the nose either....So i just made the skin lighter where I figured the nose would be to make it look like the skin was rounded there and was reflecting light. Im in the process of making her hair even better....hopefully it will turn out great so I can post it again, but i have no idea when ill finally finish the hair as Ive only worked another 10 minutes on it....busy doing other things

welll hey i rarely even get around to finishing a work once i set it down, so i understand what it's like to go back and work on a "forgotten" piece. good luck with it tho!

I think this is good, all the strands of her hair all over the place. The only problems are that 1) the iris' in her eyes could have been rounder, and 2) Her hair looks rather flat, not enough highlights. But overall nice job.

Lol I completely agree. Im working on those problems already even, its just im doing several other things as well so everything is getting done a bit slower. I knew when I posted it there would be a couple things that would still need work, but overall (for me) it turned out great. I just hope i dont ruin it in the attempts to fix it
