So what do the hash marks on the pattern mean? I'm relatively new to sewing, but this is perfect for the scarf I'm working on!

It's the symbol that marks a stitch. I have used both colour blocks and symbols to show the pattern.
Since the logo is in only one colour it is only one symbol and you can use whatever colour you want.
