Story

The morning was cool and crisp, and the earth smelled of the rain that had passed through the day before. The sun had only barely begun to show its face over the horizon when the field of hunters started prepping their horses for the excursion.
Elysa plopped the saddle on Ashling who was still sleepily munching her hay. This was to be Ashling's first real competitive hunt, and Elysa couldn't wait to ride the Irish country side with her.
Not too long after, a call was made to join the other hunters and begin the run. Elysa locked the truck and trailer, and then mounted Ashling. At first Ashling was only moving at a slow, lazy pace to the starting line, but once she saw the dogs and other competition, she found a bit of a spring in her step. Excitement began to build as the full field arrived, and everyone grouped up. The hunt master then came forward and held his starting gun straight up in the air.
"Huntsmen ready?" He called. "Hunt!" He shouted as he pulled the trigger.
The gun shot echoed across the field as the participants sprang into action. Ashling jumped into a flying start and took off galloping behind the braying dogs. The field turned out to be muddier than it first appeared, so the pace began to pull back as they ran. This hardly detered the dogs, however, as they continued on at great speed across the terrain. Further out, the competitors came across their first obstacles that took the form of fallen tree trunks and a couple of ditches that proved challenging to traverse because of the mud.
By this point the dogs had slowed up a bit and had their noses down to ground, catching any small scent. Elysa and Ashling trotted a little ways behind the pack to give the dogs ample room to search. Elysa was looking about herself watching the low-laying brush for any signs of movement, when one of the dogs sprang ahead and began braying. Only seconds after did the rest of the pack pick up the scent and ran off at full-cry. Elysa nudged Ashling to pick up to a gallop behind the dogs. This edge of the field was even more slippery than the first section, so Elysa had to pay extra attention to Ashling's pace. The dogs rounded a corner out of a small grove of trees, and were forced to crawl or jump over the slats of an old wooden fence. Elysa and Ashling weren't far behind, but Elysa hadn't been able to see the fence until they were out of the clearing. At this point there was no way to safely go around, so Elysa decided to chance jumping it despite the mud. Though there was ample room to make the jump, the slippery conditions made counting accurate strides difficult. When they were only a couple strides out from the jump, Ashling suddenly decided that the only way to make it over was to go early, so just before the final stride, Ashling turned on full thrusters and soared over the jump. Thankfully Ashling had put enough force into her jump that she landed on the other side with ample room. They slid a little ways when they landed, but then the duo picked up speed again and were off after the dogs once more.
