Description Sorry for the wait Krhainos, but here is my half many years later!

A progression of this pic can be found here [link]

I saw a photo of a guy doing a blunt slide on a snowboard years ago in a magazine and thought that was one of the raddest things I've seen, so I had to do that for this pic.
I also dug the night shots that Transworld would set up, everything blacked except for the rider and target :]

Cheers for Mr. Greer for donating the logos too!

Man, this piece is so fantastic! I really love it since it's at night time, and most snowboard paintings seem to be in the daylight, so kudos for creativity.

The graphics are an excellent touch and definitely give it that down-to-earth vibe that one would expect to find in such a place. And geez man, texture on the snow is incredible.

Was also fun to see your tutorial-ish submission where you had shown the process for this; always learn something from those.

Figure is great and overall a quality piece, my man!

Chur bol! I chose the night setting as I could control my light sources, plus I don't have to worry about stuff in the distance ;]

Yeah was stoked that Leri made those for me to use for this pic, really helped add some colour and texture to this pic.

Might have to do another one of those process thingies for an up coming pic, to show how I paint some textures using layer masks.

Hahah it's brilliant how you work, man, like with choosing the night scene to avoid certain problems, which I would have never known. Good to know that. =]

Sorry for not commenting... I swear I don't fav and run
That being said... o.O wow, this is so amazing, the first time I looked at it I had to double take on it because I thought it was a pic. (with a human) for reals...
Excellent job placing the character realistically in that environment, nice on the shadows. The clothes and folds in them (with the lighting) are outstanding too... Overall a fantastic piece, Nice job!

Thanks for coming back to do so!
well I did use human reference to help with the pose, lighting, and environment to get it right as I haven't painting a snow scene before.
Cheers again :]

Yeah it's cool, but also kinda freaky using the spot lights + a fast shutter speed can create such darkness in those kind of photos.
Thanks!!

Rad is right. I love the way you did the lighting. It really aids the idea of it almost looking like a competitive performance. And it was reminding me of a photo.

Ah, your works are always insanely pretty and succinct ^^ How do you get parts of the painting to look so real? Do you use photos as a base?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

stucat In reply to ShadowKiwi [2012-02-09 01:45:12 +0000 UTC]

I'll try and sort out a mini process how I sorted out the lighting in this piece. I took a photo of myself for clothing fold reference to see the random shapes they make since I don't have that library in my head.
And just study how light falls in particular situations.

ShadowKiwi In reply to stucat [2012-02-09 01:49:51 +0000 UTC]

Wow, your scene drawing then is really impressive. Really! I'd like to see more paintings like this. And, to see a process of one would be very interesting.

Thanks! I personally think painting environments is one of my weaknesses, but I do have some pictures planned to help get better at them :]
I'll have a look this weekend at doing a mini process of this pic and put it in my scraps or something.
