Description Sonny stared at her, a lazy smile slipping across his face. “Christ, where have you been all my life?” he said lightly.

She laughed. “And what makes you say that?”

He shrugged. “You’re a downright pain in the ass, but you may be the only human being who’s ever got me. I was beginning to think it was a lost cause.”

“Hm,” she replied, biting her lip. “I was starting to think the same thing about me.”

“Legendary Miss Dada, misunderstood by the world writ large? Now there’s a shocker. I thought you were going for the whole ‘mysterious artiste’ vibe.”

“I guess it gets old,” she said quietly. “But I mean, even when I’m myself, it doesn’t feel right. The whole world is right side up, and I’m the only one at an angle.”

“If you think you’re at an angle, then I’m at some one hundred eighty degrees.”

She snorted. “Maybe there’s something wrong with us.”

He frowned. “I don’t think so. We just see the world differently, that’s all.”

“But who's right—them or us?”

Sonny smiled and reached out to clasp her hand. “I don’t care. I like this.”
---

I honestly don't know where this came from. I've always adored both of these characters, Sonny Joon and Poppy Dada from the Nancy Drew PC games, but it was only the other day that I was completely struck by how amazing they would be as a couple. I say this is the most un-ironic way imaginable. Since I thought of this, I've been obsessively sketching them and writing fanfiction, which I never do. It's been so long since I've been so inspired by a couple. I can't even describe it. I just think they're adorable. So. There will probably be a bunch of other stuff of them to come. And I don't even care if no one else likes them or knows who they are or anything, because they're just awesome in my head and they are all that wants to come out of my pen.

I guess part of the fun is getting to make a lot of their personalities up from scratch, but what we do get from the games is pretty awesome. I honestly think HI would be stupid not to make them get together at some point, just a throwaway side story about how Poppy Dada's running around with a crazy American with multi-colored hair. It would make my life, I think.

The background is Beech Hill Museum from Secret of the Scarlet Hand.

I think I should be embarrassed about this, but I'm just really not. They make my heart all fluttery. XD Hope you guys like them.

My sister and I played these games together -- The ND games are a big nostalgia thing for us -- and we've been saying this same thing for *years*! You are awesome for putting in out there for the world to see!

Likewise -- every time they release a new game, I play it through on the edge of my seat, hoping to finally, face-to-face meet people like Sonny, Dada, or even Vivian Whitmore (GDoML). Good to know I'm not the only one!

...is Poppy the character who painted the picture in that one guy's office in Secret of the Scarlet Hand?

AND BTW I finished Treasure in the Royal Tower yesterday! So so awesome.

OMG but I have to tell you. My absolute favorite ND couple that kinda/sorta existed is so most definitely Dirk Valentine and Frances Humber from Secret of Shadow Ranch. OMGGG I can't TELL you how much I ADORE them. I even started writing fanfiction about them. But then I stopped because I wanted to get all the facts right but I was too lazy to play the game to make sure everything matched up...blah. Plus no one would've understood it.

sunni-sideup In reply to Gonewiththevampire [2010-03-09 03:02:00 +0000 UTC]

DIRK OMG. YES. Freaking sexy rogue bandit of awesome. I would have understood it. But yeah, there's a bit more fact-checking to do with them, since their story was basically the entire game. Aw man, though, they were both so awesome. So tragic. SO TRAGIC.

TRT = my favorite.

And yes, Poppy is the painter. Plus her paintings show up throughout the games. She's kind of crazy.

YES YES YES. Before I commented there was a freak moment where I worried you hadn't played that game yet. BUT YES NOW I CAN FANGIRL. YES. Omg I swear the ending of that game is my favorite ending of any game ever. How incredibly adorable was that treasure room. The fanfiction I tried to write was when Frances bakes him the cake and they eat it out near Charley's grave...? Do you remember that letter? SO cute.

I thought it went too fast. Then again, maybe I'm just getting older. -sadness-

Do they? See now you have to tell me so I can play those games and look them up.

I feel like TRT is one of the longer ones, although it could have just been because I did play it when I was younger, but even when I replay it, it takes me a while. I just love the story and all the characters.

I love all their letters. And I love how they actually got people to narrate them. At first, it annoyed me because I like reading things myself, but you really get their voices.

Let's see. I think the next time you see a Dada painting is in The Haunted Carousel, and Nancy fangirls about it for a second. And I think she's mentioned in White Wolf at Icicle Creek, although I don't remember where.

-nod- One of the first games I beat by myself was Ghost Dogs on Moon Lake and it felt like that one took forever but when I played it again a few years ago it wasn't that long...I don't know. The one that I think takes the longest is Blackmoor Manor--but that may just be because I haven't beaten it yet and I've on-and-off played it since I got it. Did you know that one of the portraits on the wall in the Great Hall is of John Locke? I had to do a project on him for World History and I replayed the beginning of the game a few weeks ago and BAM there he was! Lol. You can imagine my spasm.

Yesss. It annoyed me at first, too, but then it kind of caught on. Actually, no--it was annoying when you had to reread the letter for specific information, but if you were reading it for the first time (or just for fun) it was really awesome.

Hahah. I replay that next, then. And I can't remember much of White Wolf, although that one took me a ridiculously long time, too.

sunni-sideup In reply to Gonewiththevampire [2010-03-09 22:27:31 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, Blackmoor is definitely the longest and most difficult. Just because the way they wrote the puzzles is insanely complicated. Definitely the best one in terms of difficulty. Whatever. That's my analysis. XD And yeah, I just read that John Locke was in it yesterday. Cool beans.

I started to replay SSH last time I was on break, so I may start it up again soon. *dance*

It took me like forever to figure out the switchy-door thing in the wall near the gargoyle (you had to go right right left right or something like that to get into the secret room), and then the alchemy...ohgod. And I was so ticked off because I swear I read every single cheat EVER about getting the wand out of the statue's hand but I could NEVER do it and it was so frustrating. >.> But I still love it because I love it when the games are super challenging.

You should. Most definitely. =3

sunni-sideup In reply to Gonewiththevampire [2010-03-09 22:40:17 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure I used a few cheats on that one, but I distinctly remember writing pages of notes while I was in school, trying to figure out what I still needed to do and how I needed to do it. It was ridiculous. I also did that on Waverly Academy, but that was only because I didn't realize I had to turn on a light switch. ALWAYS TURN ON THE LIGHT SWITCH.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gonewiththevampire In reply to sunni-sideup [2010-03-11 00:29:36 +0000 UTC]

OMG YES. In Waverly I got stuck because I had to open a cabinet and I thought that you needed a key for the cabinet. Turns out I already had the key and I literally wasted like 10 minutes talking to people and playing games.

Maybe you're thinking of Prudence Rutherford? She was in that game, too.

No, Poppy was the artist who had created the rubber shark painting that's in Taylor Sinclair's office, the one that had a piece of Maya jewelry on it. Her paintings pop up in other games, too.

Thanks!

Nessarie In reply to sunni-sideup [2010-03-08 21:55:53 +0000 UTC]

OH, okay, yeah, I must have been thinking of her. We've never actually talked to Poppy or seen her, have we? Just her paintings. I get all my ND characters mixed up, save Ned, Sonny, Bess, George, Nancy (of course), and the Hardy Boys.

Speaking of which, there's been a serious lack of Hardy Boys in the last few games. *pouts* I hope they come back.

You have to call her once in SSH to ask about the painting. You actually have quite a lengthy conversation with her, but you can only talk to her that once.

The Hardy Boys are SO ANNOYING when they're IN THE GAME. But on the phone, they're pretty cool.
