thank you! Though Zoey is a slightly sinister creature, that cat might not be a safe as it seems...

I wonder if Sphinxes are genetically linked to cats? Lions and house cats are related, but how does the biology of chimeras work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

superlucky13 In reply to The-Bloody-Bishop [2014-09-23 21:17:08 +0000 UTC]

It makes sense to assume that they share at least some genes with a big cat, but for me since they're mythological creatures I find it hard to compare them to normal animals. Same for chimeras really.

The-Bloody-Bishop In reply to superlucky13 [2014-09-23 21:31:18 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. In the same way, I find it difficult thinking that mythological creatures like dragons could be related to reptiles. In fact, many cultures around the world give dragons both reptilian and mammalian traits, and don't ask me how that works. XD

superlucky13 In reply to The-Bloody-Bishop [2014-09-24 23:07:40 +0000 UTC]

it's confusing when you try to work it out that's the problem. They're just totally different, it would be like comparing a lizard to a zebra

The-Bloody-Bishop In reply to superlucky13 [2014-09-25 00:28:39 +0000 UTC]

There are a few core similarities, but ultimately they're too genetically distant. From an evolutionary standpoint, mammals were once reptiles, or rather reptiles and mammals didn't exist. Instead, pan-mammal/pan-reptilian creatures existed, and would become mammals and reptiles over hundreds of millions of years.

... funny, how we went from mythology to evolutionary science in the blink of an eye. XD
