Description Hello all!

This is a oil paint predominantly, with some digital enhancements.

It took 10 minutes of paintings for 6 days each day to do it. Then it was a bit bland, my mom helped me by making the sky look surreal.

I have submitted this to surreal for I am here, depicting a 'surreal state of consiousness' that some pilots experince due to enormous g forces while flying.

This F-14 is an extremely manourable, powerful and , yeh sexy aircraft of the previous century. . . its phoenix missile system was extremely deadly. And, . . . .even today, even after teh arrival of JSF and F-22 raptor, this aircraft is still a great one. . .

in a hypothetical battle where u pit a F-22 and a F-14, in BVR combat (beyond visual range), F-22 will surely win.. . . however, take it to a close range dogfight, . . . . F-14 will surely win , the raptor isnt a match . . .. and huh speak about the JSF, it doesnt even deserve to be in the frame of the TOMCAT!!!

and, . . . .

This image title "F-14 in Twilight zone" a surreal image

To depict the 'twilight' pilots may experince when flying in highly maeourable aircraft due to the extreme g-forces, the pilots may sometimes lose consiousness, enter an altered state of consiousness,, and , feel they are floating out of the aircraft, and, seeing the sky everywhere, no land, no sea. . .strange light, surreal landscapes etc. . . .usually, pilots recover spontaneously, .. .sadly there have been cases of crashes.

So, a great aircraft like the F-14 requires pilots of great calibre too!!!

History:
1) F-14 has been an important part of the US navy air arm , a replacement for the F-4 phantoms.
2) Since 3 decades. . .and, thought out of production, are still in service. . . though they are partially replaced by F-18 superhornets

Chracteristics:
1) Twin engine,
2) Wings can be made to sweep forward and backward to suit operability at high and low speeds.
3) This aircraft made Mr Tom Cruise what he is now.

Okay now, I hope u like it, if u did, then please , a or a comment would made me glad

Heh,
Judgeing by your rather spirited discription of this aircraft
Methinks you are a real F-14 fan.

But you're right. It is a cool plane.

Between Top Gun and JAG, the Tomcat has captured more hearts and minds than the Phantom had before it and will probably remain the icon of the Carrier Service long after it is replaced by the Raptor.

It is probably the most iconic fighter aircraft since the F-86 Sabre, or maybe even the Mustang or Spitfire.

most excellent...I can't draw anything with man made angles so this just blows me away, and the fact that it's a painting! I paint but not that well.

Wonderful descriptions you have there. my mind wanders is i read them, and the picture you have here is so captivating and amazing. I was definately lifted to the skies, to that moment of dreaminess, shut out from all noises... This is a wonderful display of talent.

i get it ...very kool !! ..the thumb threw me off a bit because ...underneath the plane...in the thumb ..the slice of clouds looks like a plane or a bird flying in the opposite direction !! ... SO thats what i keyed in on in the fullview...it took me a few seconds to refocus on what was REALLY goin on...

You painted that ?? !! in an hour?..with oils ??! ...that's really a nice tight job ( how big is the original ? )

good job for sure

Really thankful fang

And, true, it was made with oil

but, 1 hour doesnt mean 1 hour at a stretch!!!

I took about 100 mins total in 6 -8 days

(because oil paint takes a lot of time to dry, before u can paint on it the next layer )

Nicely done Swaroop, I must say I love this one very much. Just having the Tomcat's siloette is perfect, the clouds couldn't be better. Very sweet job!

I am really thankful for the compliments!

Oil paint was worth its time!

and, u belonged to teh starfighter squadron (oops I though starfighter was F-104)

btw, I have been wanting to ask u for a long time, I know u were not a Pilot, but did u have a chance to atleast fly in the copilot's seat in a Tomcat?

hmm, just like that tom cruise did in Top Gun!

opsidian In reply to Swaroop [2005-01-28 20:35:28 +0000 UTC]

Starfighters is the callsign for the sqaudron, our sister sqaudron was the VF-102 Diamonbacks. Ever sqaudron has their own designation. However you are right, it is the F-104 Starfighter.

I never got to take a flight but since I was a mechanic I did get to power up the engines to do tests from time to time.
