About the MiG-21

Going back in History,
When someone talks about the Air force of the former USSR, the first thing that comes to the minds of most peoples' mind is the 'MiG', and , among, the MiG, the most famous was the 'Mikoyan-Gurevich-21',

Though, individually assessed, somewhat a 'less capable aircraft, was highly effective because of its easy upgradability, and, 'easy and fast to build them'. So the Soviet tactic was to pit 4 MiG-21s for every F-4 phantoms.

Even though better aircraft such as the ,MiG 23, MiG 25, MiG-27 and MiG-29 were created, the MiG 21 was still not retired because of its cost effective nature and low costs.

In the Korean War, the unavailability of the MiG21 was probaly the reason why the NorthKorea couldnt get South Korea.
They had to use MiG-15s , MiG-19 to fight the technologically superior F-86 sabres of the USAF. However, late in the war, a few MiG-21s were into action and were the cause for most of the USAF losses. But, it was too late an entry, and war had to end. The rest is history.

The MiG 21 Today
Its easy upgradability is the reason why several countries still use them. However, it has got the dubious name ' Flying Coffin', because of the frequent number of crashes during training.

Features:
its a fighter, with limited ground attack capability, and excelent high altitude abilities. less maneurable. And one of the first supersonic planes in the world. And, available in single and 2 seater versions.

The engine is mounted in front and hence, the 'weird appearance'
