Description This is about my second or third attempt at drawing Dr Julian Bashir from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He's my favourite character from the series.

In his late twenties when he first arrived on DS9, Dr Bashir is a young medical genius who is later discovered to have a dark secret in his past. As a child, he was genetically enhanced so he is considerably smarter and more able than his colleagues. Although genetic enhancement is illegal in the Federation, he was able to keep his post and practise because his father volunteered to go to prison for having his son enhanced.

Ability to capture the character in a portrait is a skill very hard to master yet you seem to nail it. Well done

Thanks! I wasn't too sure if I liked this one at first, because I always think of Julian as quite a happy, funny character and in this picture he's rather serious. But I'm really happy to hear that you think I got the character right. That sort of thing means a lot to me in my pictures.

The trick is presenting a character out of his own context and still retain his original character. You nailed it pretty well. Kepp up the great work

It's very nicely done, it has the quality of Bashir in the detail. From the smile to the look in his eyes.

Thanks!Dr Bashir was always my favourite character in DS9 and I used a screencap where he had an interesting expression in his face to try and capture him properly. I'm glad you think I've done him justice.

Bashir is someone who you could tell from the very beginning was lying about something, he was great at keeping it hidden, but it was easy to tell that his eagerness and focus to be social was a smokescreen to hide a secret about himself.

So aye, you got it just right.

Thanks! I had read a lot of the books set after the series, so I was aware of Bashir's big secret. It's funny how you see things and connect them to his genetic enhancements when in reality, they were a last minute decision by the writers. It adds a whole new depth to the character when you watch the earlier episodes aware that he's hiding something.

Even before the decision, you could tell all the way through the series that was something secretive about Bashir due to his behaviour.

At first he as annoying, but he matured quite a bit once he stopped putting his foot into his foot in regards of his comments.

He did that rather a lot, didn't he? I thought he and Chief O'Brien were great. It was so much cooler after they became friends.

They were great characters, both of them being so manly about admitting that they had become very strong friends who trusted and respected one another.

I especially loved their holodeck adventures. The Battle of Britain was particularly funny, as was their obsession with the Alamo.

And how they tended not to share those adventures with anyone else.

Thanks! I tried to find a good reference image so I could practice drawing more complicated expressions, so I'm glad it worked!
