This is excellent. Just speaking of the piece itself, You've captured the colors and style so well, I had to check to make sure this was a critique of the work and not photography.Β
Now for the story, it comes across clearly. I could just as easily skip your description and get almost all of it. You've done an amazing job, keep it up!

I love how this piece is so simple, but contains so much meaning. you have clearly given much thought to the symbols & imagery within this piece.
the vibrant reddish-orangish hues of this piece gives off a very fierce, determined, impassioned vibe - which I suppose is true to what you were trying to express. the seven female figures are almost identical and are all interconnected; which to me, brings a message of community and caring for those of the same gender. in our society, women are obliged to judge each other when what we truly need is to support each other as it can be hard for females to thrive in a world like ours.Β
the thick black lines seem to separate worlds from each other - the sun, smiling from its position in the sky, is separated from the women; who are in turn bisected from the watchful spirits. i'm not too sure what the lines may mean, but they certainly provide high contrast and interest to the piece.
all in all, amazing piece - i love the concept, the meaning & the simplicity. also, great aesthetic appeal.

Hello! Thank you very much for the wonderful comments and fave! You've touched on all the points perfectly - yes, these were all important things that I hoped to include in this painting. We are all equal and should be treated as such (& should be regardless of gender, race, or age). The totem animals are indeed watching over them, one for each woman. We can think of it as our individual character and unique qualities work together to be part of a safe and strong society.
The black lines were part of a greater mosaic and were part of the basic colour scheme and shape that participants were to include in order for the painting to be part of the whole. It was a really neat experience, and I hope to see the original someday.
Thanks again!
