Description
Hezare beni’Yashifa al’Xanthius
Human (Symballan/Equideyean) female Lvl 3 War Witch of Isis (Gladiator)
Many years ago, a young orphaned girl was taken in by the Temple of Isis in Xanthius. She was a typical waif of that city, a half caste of Symballan and Equideyean blood, unsuited for either culture’s acceptance, left alone on the streets to fend for herself. She never spoke about what happened to her parents or even who they were. Most thought she’d never really known. All she would say was that her name was Yashifa. With no family, she adopted the Equideyean version of the standard Symballan last name. Since she was found in Xanthius, she became Yashifa Alxanthi.
Yashifa’s young life was difficult at best. The Reverend Mother of the Temple in Xanthius was no less a villain than everyone else in the City of Thieves. She used the young girls under her care for menial labor, sold them to unscrupulous whore mongers when they were old enough, and treated them as less than dogs. Yashifa was destined for a short, tragic life with no hope for the future.
Then, one day, the Silver Gryphon Legacy rode into town on a mission. What they were about didn’t matter, at least not to a wide eyed half-caste looking for a sign. Their leader, the daughter of the High Priestess of the Church itself, came to visit the Temple. Yasmina Emmahezare Beni-Isis was not pleased with what she saw. She almost immediately shut the temple down and moved the whole congregation to Syvasgaard. The cruel Reverend Mother was chastised and sent for re-education back in New Phoenix. And little Yashifa got a chance to ride on Emma’s Gryphon. The girl was instantly swayed and permanently won over. A few years later, she entered training in New Phoenix to become a priestess herself.
Yashifa’s years at the Great Temple on the Avenue of the Gods taught her many things, but it revealed much more about her than anyone suspected. As the Gods of Heliopolis and Olympus were gearing up for an all-out war, Yashifa became the first War Witch of Isis. She was trained in not only the arcane and divine as other mystics, but in the full range of fighting skills of WarPriestesses. Alas, the Three Wars were over before she could lend her new strength to the fight, but there were other threats to contend with. On a trip back to her birthplace, she encountered the hero of the Battle of Xanthius, Sergeant Jarah al’Durran, and soon became involved in the group known as the Cliff Raptors. Her position during the overthrow of the Xanth Guild and refusal to return to the Symballan Empire left her temporarily excommunicated, yet her connection to Isis never waned. In the end, she was reinstated, but traded her commission in the Symballan Army for rank as a Major in the newly formed Xanth Army under a new Queen, the Black Queen of Xanthius. Her commanding officer? Colonel Jarah al’Durran.
Yashifa eventually rose to lead the Cliff Raptors as the older warriors and wizards retired. But her dedication to the Church of Isis never wavered. To be the only War Witch of Isis was a burden, a glory, and a terrible responsibility. The heaviest weight on her was the need to select her replacement when the time came. To that end, she did what many amongst the Church of Isis had done over the centuries. Rather than wait for that perfect candidate to magically drop into her lap, she decided to breed one herself. Reverend Mothers of the church had often selected a mate for his stamina, honor, strength and other attributes, specifically to sire an offspring that would be genetically perfect for the task for which they were to be trained. Yashifa saw this as the only option. The product of that selective breeding was named Hezare, in honor of the priestess who had rescued Yashifa from a dark fate.
Hezare beni’Yashifa al’Xanthius was trained early and trained hard. She was sent to the same school of mysticism, run by the Church of Isis, in which her mother had grown up. But that wasn’t all. To be an even more dangerous living weapon, when she graduated from the Temple in New Phoenix, she was trained at the Coliseum in Xanthius. The Cliff Raptors, as part of the overthrow of the Xanth Guild, had merely replaced the leaders of the Guild with their own members. To change the very social fabric of the City of Thieves overnight would cause mass protests, violent upheaval and attacks. Rather than eliminating the pit fighting, a new coliseum was constructed, financed by the Carnelian Sisterhood, with one of their own, Sabine of Messentius, running the new gladiatorial events. Some of the best fighters in the Equideyean Range had trained and fought there. When Hezare was done with her brutal lessons, she was a fighting force to be reckoned with.
Though she is often too serious, overly pious and respectful of tradition, she still manages to take after her mother in many regards. She’s not afraid to throw off her robes and vestments and dive into an orgy from time to time. She’s known to gamble and drink on occasion, and keeps a few Erotic spells in her repertoire, just in case. Her specialization with scimitars and her integration of both the Viridian and Frelenat fighting styles into her own unique martial arts makes her deadly, even when facing opponents with many times her experience. Her spells are not yet truly dangerous, but her ability already matches much higher level spellcasters, and there are few Metamagic feats she does not know.
