I like how Tarri is like half the size of the six-year-old and looks quite a bit younger.

It's all to do with what Tarri is. Animal-people are not the same height as regular humans, though they are also not the same size as their regular animal counterparts, either.
For example, Krimbles is taller than Tarri because a regular cat would be bigger than a regular miniature lop, but a cat is smaller than a human, so she is still smaller than a human, despite being taller than Tarri.
Animals larger than humans (like elephants) will have animal-people counterparts which aren't as large as the regular elephants, but will be taller than humans. :3
