Description Please help me.

Seriously, I'm broken. I have to finish 2 show entries, still have to finish my half of a collab fawnling write up, post the rosettes for the Snow Show, do a Nordy tack commission that's been waiting for me to have a streak of inspiration and that's just for starters. And yet, I've spent the two hours before bed doing this because I'm obsessed with Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series (don't believe me? Check out my new profile webcam) and I genuinely can't get enough of these two.

I probably don't have to tell a single person in the fandom who they are, but for those of you staring and going "What's Tatty been smoking?!" (I haven't, by the way, I'm just running on a lack of sleep) - these two are Percy and Annabeth.

And I decided to torture myself, too, because I combined a billion things in this that - simply put - I can't draw anyway. Like water, the sea, people, people kissing, clouds and direct light sources. I will point out though that they intentionally may/shouldn't look soaked - that's actually one of Percy's handy talents (for him and me when painting). So its a mess and was doomed from the start, but I love it anyway for reasons unknown and I'm just glad I've gotten in on the fan art for this series because- Gah. I love them.

Send me a self-help tape, a sharp kick or ideas for more drawings (heck even fiction). I'm not fussy which XD.

If I was a demigod I can completely imagine I'd be a daughter of Poseidon. I don't fancy the regular brushes with death that come with that title, but I've always loved the water in any form and I love to swim, so that'd fit. Anyway... I'm going to bed and tomorrow I will be finishing actual stuff I need to do.

Then reading the rest of the next book in the series. Who said that? Not me. Move along.

Thank you

I'm a big fan of the series, too. Yes, I read MoA a little while back now. I just have to suffer until October when HoH is published

Hiya! Mod of PJ & Co on my secret deviant art account that I use to find all the art! I got your message and I REMEMBER YOU I'm really happy that you liked that you were put on my blog. I was happy to help you share your art, and thanks for sending me a message. I love getting messages.

Having a secret DA account is genius XD And I wasn't sure how much you'd remember, given I know a lot of PJO blogs post unbelievable amounts of artwork. I thought I'd clarify it was this picture just to be sure

You're welcome for the message I'm hoping to get tumblr at some point when I have the time on my hands, but until then, I'm glad I could get one of my random percabeth scribbles into the community over there. And thank you for taking the time to come back to this page to reply ^^ I know what you mean - Messages are golden (I did see your response on your blog, too, so thank you for leaving that also )

Tattered-Dreams In reply to GingerLuna [2013-04-08 22:01:27 +0000 UTC]

No! Wow.

Though to be fair, I only found out my art had been featured because I've been following sallyjacksoning's blog for a while now, and noticed it on there. I checked the notes to see who'd originally posted it and found you. Maybe many of the people who's art you feature just don't know you've done it?

I'm usually really funny about my work being posted off of DA without my permission, though I do have exceptions. I know more about tumblr now than I did when it first happened, and the fact that it was all sourced and linked back makes me okay with it, but some people may still be bothered if their art is featured somewhere and they haven't given permission first. That could mean they don't leave a message for you...

GingerLuna In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2013-04-08 22:31:08 +0000 UTC]

Maybe, but I queue about 40 pictures every few weeks. That's 40 artists to ask and wait for permission for. My blog couldn't run if I waited for them to tell me it was okay. Since the art is properly sourced and proper credit is given, I see no reason to further complicate things for myself.

In a perfect world I'd ask everyone. In a perfect world.

To be fair, if you see that I've posted your art, (given you credit AND sourced it back to you), and you still have your knickers in a twist about it being on Tumblr, I have Anon on so you can ask me civilly to remove it and I will do so.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to GingerLuna [2013-04-08 23:03:08 +0000 UTC]

I'm not familiar with the inner workings of tumblr, but I have picked up the gist of it, so I get the concept of a queue, and I realise that waiting for everyone is impractical, especially given you're in no way stealing the art. But I can see if from the artist's points of view, too.

And I know that people can ask you to remove the art if they're bothered by it, but that still relies on them knowing it was posted. As I said about mine, it was a lucky chance I realised because I was following another blog, but if artists here don't go on tumblr at all, they would never realise and know to contact you. Like you said, its not a perfect world and there's upsides and downsides everywhere ^^

(on that note, I wonder if you could tell me - should you delete a post, does it actually remove it from all the blogs who've reblogged it, too? I have no idea how that part works I really need to get my act together and get a blog XD)

GingerLuna In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2013-04-09 00:21:34 +0000 UTC]

I have NO idea. No one's ever asked me too.

Torture paid off! This is a lovely little expressive piece. I haven't a CLUE who these characters are - never read the books - but they look so happy to be with each other <3 I especially like the way you did the lighting and the hair! And the tug crinkles on the clothes <3

Thank you!! ^^

I can only encourage you to look into the series, but if you'd rather not, that's your choice Percy and Annabeth go through so much hell (literally and figuratively) and their relationship just forms so naturally as you go along. They definitely hang onto each other every chance they get because the world always seems to be ending (I can't even put this into words XD).

And yes, I love curly hair and clothing folds, lighting not so much, but I'm glad you like it .

And yes, I think with the release of Mark of Athena, its woken up some new interest in the first books again. For me it was just that they'd been on my list to read for a while and I got the first book for Christmas, but everyone around here's been pushing the most recent one.

Love this! You did such a great job with both of them. I read that series a little while ago... I finished the Percy Jackson series (also loved it), but never start his next set. I might need to reread the Jackson set (great excuse to read them) as a refresher so I can pick up his next books.

There just simply isn't enough hours in the day for fun (art, reading, etc), and too many hours claimed by the boring stuff (work, bills, chores, etc).

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ReQuay [2013-02-19 18:07:08 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much ^^

I cottoned on late, I know (despite watching the film years back and contemplating the books then). I was fortunate enough that the third book of the second series had been released by the time I started reading, or I'd have been in pieces by now. Excuse or no excuse, definitely go back and re-read them before embarking on the next set (so far, I like the new characters, but nothing beats Percy's narrative in the first series).

And you're right about that! Which is why this kind of thing comes out when I should be sleeping...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ReQuay In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2013-02-19 20:36:42 +0000 UTC]

I definitely want to reread them now. But I just started the The Mortal Instruments book series. And am totally sucked into that now (what did I say about not enough time!?). So I think I'm going to finish those first.

And yes, I do sacrifice my sleep... I just read (instead of doing art) when I should be sleeping.

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ReQuay [2013-02-19 20:50:32 +0000 UTC]

Yay; you're the second person I've convinced (possibly, and not that it took a lot of effort) to read PJ. But Eeep! TMI I love that series; definitely work your way through that first I read it a couple of years back and could barely put it down (I won't talk about it, since I don't know how far you are). It was one of the earlier urban fantasy books I got into, and I love the first trilogy, but I couldn't work with the sequel too well. There's a prequel trilogy, too 'The Infernal Devices' which is very steampunk.

Lately I do art late, and then still read a chapter once I'm in bed. I'm terrible!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ReQuay In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2013-02-20 16:10:07 +0000 UTC]

I'm definitely into TMI series right now. I just finished the third book (City of Glass). I'm starting the first Prequel book (Clockwork Angel) next. I didn't know what order to read everything in, since they were published all intermingled... so I Google'd it and all the reviews said to read them in the order they were published, which bounces back and forth b/t the TMI and Clockwork series. It's so hard to divert from the main storyline to start a new one, but I'm sure I'll get sucked into that equally also.

I gave up after being thoroughly disappointed with my fawnling lines last night, and just read instead. I'm going shopping with my sis today, and will sit down afterward to hit the fawnling ref with renewed interest. If I can't make the lines work for me, I think I'll scrap it and start over actually using a ref this time. But I figure walking away and taking a break is a good idea whenever one gets frustrated with art....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ReQuay [2013-02-20 16:52:25 +0000 UTC]

That's the order I worked in, too. Finish CoG and start on CA. The publishing was all wonky, but you've got the order about right (technically, the prequel can be read anywhere, but because characters in it crop up in the second trilogy (Fallen Angels) its good to know who they are). I was a little hesitant, too, that I wouldn't get into Infernal Devices, because I loved Jace, Clary and that lot so much, but I completely got absorbed by it and Will more than makes up for missing Jace.

The fandom is just waiting on Clockwork Princess - the last of the ID trilogy - so that's been murder XD. I've got City of Fallen Angels, but right around then is when I started to feel the series had lost a little something - like the characters were being dragged out for more story. I'll definitely attempt to read those properly one day, though and hope my first thoughts were wrong.

I'm sorry your fawnling lines are giving you a hard time! But walking away for a while is definitely a good thing Good luck tackling it again!

LOL, now it's taking everything in me to do art (or when I get time this afternoon) and not just read. Is it possible to get addicted to a book series?

I've decided to scrap my current fawnling ref. It's done with flat colors, so I'm not going to just throw it away. But I'll save it as an "extra" pic and maybe use it as practice for painting backgrounds down the road. I want to be happy with my doe's official reference, and I'm OK restarting it over later today. At least I got all the "writing" part written up last night... now I just need the art.

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ReQuay [2013-02-20 19:31:12 +0000 UTC]

Haha, it definitely is I know that feeling well. Back in school and all through college I always had a space in my bag to cart around my current book with all my actual work, and now I still take a pencil, paper pad and a book if I go out anywhere (heck, I'm even carrying my curretny PJ book up and down the stairs each day). I don't know what my life is without books XD.

Sounds like you're halfway there And I get wanting to be happy about your ref image. Karma, one of my HARPG horses, still only has her foal ref up, though she's now 4 years old. I drew out the sketch of her aged up ref over a year ago and I can't find it, and so renewing her ref has been put on hold I can't wait to read about your fawnling and all her history

ReQuay In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2013-02-20 21:47:29 +0000 UTC]

So, if you are big time into books, and obviously horses, I gotta ask - have you read Green Rider ? In case you haven't, I simply must suggest it. It's a wonderful series about a girl, her special horse, and a magical service of horse-riding messengers that serve the King. It has magic, elves, evil characters, a dark forest, and a whole twist of plots.

I actually wrote down a list of each of the main riders, and their horses. I was planning on drawing all of the main Green Riders (human and horse counterparts). But that's a ways off from completion (or starting). Lordy... add that to my ever-growing to-do list, LOL.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ReQuay [2013-02-20 22:04:24 +0000 UTC]

I haven't read that - or even heard of it! Darn you for adding another epic sounding book to my list (but thank you, thank you all the same ). I used to read a lot of horse fiction, but I've tapered off with that genre, mostly because at their core, they're all the same - snobby attitudes, yards that need saving, riding for ribbons...There's two horse books that I really love, though (or technically more, since one is a series) because they focus on the horse as a personality and as something unique.

The Heartland Series by Lauren Brooke I read for years, all about a horse farm in Virginia that uses alternate/natural therapy to heal horses with physical and emotional scars. The other one is called 'Sundancer' by Shelley Peterson, and it centres on a girl who is a selective mute (she can talk, she just choses not to) but she can talk to animals telepathically, and its about her trying to help a horse that turns up with some serious emotional trauma (and was based on the authors relationship with her own horse). Beautifully written books with solid characters, and in the case of Heartland, teaches you a lot too. Sorry, that went on ages...

I'd love to draw a mass picture of book characters I love, but I'd never get it finished! It would be awesome to see yours of all the Green Riders if you get it finished one day

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ReQuay In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2013-02-21 05:55:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, the horse's (who are mentioned frequently) are present, but not the main storyline (not horse fiction). So it's enjoyable to have them present, but still part of a bigger story with other focus.

I have to re-read that series again... but will wait until just before the next book in the series comes out (4 are out so far). I think at that time I'm going to make a more thorough list of the Riders, and maybe even undertake a mass character pic. At least I will have some time before I have to worry about that though (it's usually a few years between books)... so I can focus on my other HARPG projects in the meantime.
