Yep...I always thought Sonic was older than the official age, I feel that Classic is 12 or 13, maybe 14 as a stretch, and Modern must be around 16 or 17 (no way is he 15, except maybe in the dialogue for Sonic and the Black Knight!). Tails, it's hard to tell, 'cause to start he looks about four...

Sonic's age is given as 15, and Tails was supposed to be 8 in the next-gen canon - at least according to the Sonic Heroes manual.
But it seems they're still moving on - the new Sonic voice in Colours sound deeper... so maybe they're actually making him as old as 20 (this year is the 20th year of the first game's release), and Tails is prepubescent?
It'll be interesting to see if Tails does actually become a teenager in some future story...

Yeah, I know his official age is 15, but that just doesn't make sense to me...he always seemed older than that. And I think Tails's age is given in the SA2 manual as well. However, Tails sounds like he's four in Sonic Heroes...
Sonic being 20 would be too old, kids wouldn't be able to relate...six year olds are fans of this guy. A deeper voice is the way to go, though.

Yeah, the voice actor for Tails in Sonic Heroes had a pro-and-con... the pro being he was actually played by a boy-actor, but the con being that said actor was too young - too much slur in the voice trying to form those long words... yet he was supposed to be an eight-year-old lad, apparently...?
Heh, heh... guess that's true. Though, being a tad older does also make Sonic identifiable with his older fans too - those of us that knew him right from the beginning... the first ever game! (Me, for example)
And a teenager Tails would certainly be interesting to see... wonder if he'd grow taller than Sonic...?

I don't care how old the actor was, the people who chose the him shouldn't have done so. Tails also looks four in that game, they made him really short.
Me as well. That's why I think he's between 16 and 18. Although if he was 18 they'd have to explain his intelligence level, because frankly, it isn't that high.
Tails could never be taller than Sonic, merely because he wouldn't look like the little brother anymore.

If only they could have brought back Corey Bringas' Tails voice from Sonic Adventure - I expect his voice broke by then, though...
Still, what I've seen of the Sonic Colours movies on YouTube, Kate Higgins seems to make a very worthy effort.

I've always kind of held the belief that Sonic is leader simply for being fast, cocky and a natural leader - and while Knuckles provides the team muscle, Tails is definitely the brains of the outfit!

Corey was really good. I do really like Kate Higgins, and regardless of what they say about 4kids actors, I did like Amy Palant.
You said you saw the Sonic Colours movies...remember the part where Sonic says "Nobody told me there'd be math involved"? It wasn't difficult math either...and when Merlina told Sonic about the future in Sonic and the Black Knight, he said something like, "You mean it'd be like a haunted house? Cool!" Not things a self-respecting teenager would say. I was pretty surprised when he figured out Eggman's trick in Sonic X, and nobody else did.
That is why Sonic is the leader...he generally holds a level head, he never backs down, he's always cool under fire, and he is definitely a natural leader. It's not that he's smart, it's that people want to follow him. Knuckles used to be smart, circa the Sonic OVA, but he did get pretty dumb and hotheaded. Tails has an IQ of 300...I guess he's making up for his friends' deficiencies!

I've only seen a few of the Sonic Colours movies, so I don't really know about that.
But yeah, Tails certainly seem to make up for Sonic's hasty approach and Knux's impulsiveness!

Well, an IQ of 300 is good, but it is also plain ridiculous...the minimum IQ for Mensa is 132-148, so having an IQ of 300 would mean that you were never wrong and knew everything and could figure everything out. And if his IQ is 300 at age 8, what would it reach when he became an adult?

Well, he'll have an IQ of like 600. How is that even measurable? It's kind of dumb, in my opinion. I mean, kudos to Tails for being smart, but an IQ of 600 is just plain impossible.
