A large banquet had been prepared across a long table. Foods of every kind were splayed out, ready to be devoured. Pagumon and Zururmon wasted no time digging in and the others were soon to follow. After getting some food in their stomachs the teens then began their waves of questions towards Gennai.
“So Gennai” David began “how are you going to get us home?”
“Oh ho! Ho! Ho!” Gennai laughed “I can’t send you home just yet” he smiled taking a drink of lemonade.
“And why not?” David growled clutching his knife tightly, shooting daggers at the cheerful old man.
“Well because the Digital World is in danger of course.” Gennai said as if it were the most obvious thing.
“What does that have to do with us?” Jason asked.
“It has everything to do with you Jason” Babydmon looked up at him with a mouthful of food. He swallowed “You’re the Digidestened!”
“What does that mean?” Nicole asked.
“Allow me to start at the beginning” Gennai wiped his mouth and folded his hands. “The Digital World is a world made up of computer data that become living organisms. However just like a regular computer sometimes the Digital World becomes…corrupted. Since the first corruption many decades ago 7 children have been selected to come to the Digital World and save it.”
“But if this is just a big computer then can’t you just hit a reset button or something?” Carrie asked.
“Ho! Ho! I’m afraid it doesn’t quite work like that” Gennai laughed.
“So how do you expect us to save a world we know nothing about?” Annie asked.
“That’s what you have me for Annie” Lunamon smiled at her.
“That’s right” Gennai nodded “Your Digimon are directly linked to your spirit. As you change and grow stronger, so will they.”
“You’re referring to Digivolving right?” Kevin asked.
“Correct.”
“So you guys can Digivolve beyond what you are now?” Jason asked Babydmon.
“That’s right Jason!” Babydmon smiled.
“So if I grow stronger than David then you’ll grow stronger then Coronamon right?” Jason asked.
“Well…” Babydmon hesitated.
“As if!” David scoffed.
“You watch!” Jason leapt to his feet “Babydmon and I will grow stronger than you and Coronamon ever will!”
“Settle down Jason” Kevin muttered.
“So what about these Digivices.” Max asked setting hers on the table. “How do they work?”
“Ah yes. You see, those Digivices are what connects your soul to your Digimon. Your power flows through the Digivice and gives your Digimon the strength he or she needs to Digivolve. Granted they’re not too hungry anyway.” Gennai glanced down the table at Zururumon and Pagumon who were still stuffing their faces, paying no mind to the sour faces Annie was making at them for eating so fast. Kevin nudged Zururmon but only got slime on his elbow for his efforts.
“Ok let’s get back to the getting home part” David changed the subject.
“What do we have to do to get home Mr. Gennai?” Carrie asked.
“Well as I stated before you are the Digidestened. You have been tasked with saving the Digital World from the growing corruption.”
“So what is this corruption? What do you want us to do?” Nicole asked.
Gennai stood from the table and placed his hands behind his back. “Follow me”.
