Description Now before the fact, if You like the new Changeling's design in the show then that's great and I'm glad you like them where I cannot. I'm just someone who has a passion for character design and wanted to show what I would have done if I had re-designed the reformed changelings.

Also these are NOTΒ OCs, This artwork here got placed on a PonyBooru without my knowledge and a Lot of people seem to have mistaken these for Original Characters. Individually they are not developed characters, they are in the essence a proposed whole-species re-design to replace the ones we got in the show. The only one that isΒ a character is the one on the far right that's a re-design of reformed Thorax, but otherwise No. These are not actual characters and I have no plans to make them actual characters.

I know for a fact I'm not the only one disappointed by the changeling's downright hideous and backwards and hypocritical redesign.

I felt like what happened to the changeling's design was very unfair to their old Design. So I wanted to come up with a redesign that was a happy compromise between the original and the "new" pastel design.

- I actually love the new eyes on the pastel changelings, it makes them look alive (except for the weird gradient shine on them so I didn't use that)
- I wanted to show that the Changelings can look "dark" and "good" So instead of being pure grey I made their carapaces a dark blue to help bring out their other colors
- The Pastel's wings are so overblown, I gave them a tweak of the original wings and made them look "prettier" without making them so outrageous
- I gave them "manes" because somehow their heads just had so much negative space, I wanted to show off what kind of finned webbing variations can be done
- I also wanted to show how colors can be used too, more solid and streamlined, there's no need for all the 10 color at once gradients. There's too many colors on the pastel versions, You can make them look much more visually appealing by using LESS colors than by using MORE.
- I also re-designed Thorax since he's now the new ruler of the changelings, he needs a new design just as much as any other changeling. I figured A deep forest green would be a good color for him.

I'm always open to comments and suggestions. Please let me know what you think!

It's not about the new changeling designs looking odd! It's about the reformation. Let's just redeem them as if nothing happened. Let's redeem almost all villains minus the three from the season finalle! The whole show felt so naive and undercooked in its plotlines that I dropped it.

Also can we talk about how shallow it is that they chose bright colors on purpose! It's like the writers said "The changelings look too scary. The kids will hate them if they reform but do not change outwardly. We better skip the whole mature approach of people changing on the inside even if they look scary and just make them more pony like". In other words - Bright or pastel colors good, dark and dreary colors bad. The story felt lazy and the designs felt to have been done like that for shallow reasons. At least that's the impression it gave me even if I'm wrong about the writers' intention.

I know I'm just moaning at this point about a cartoon but I guess I got disappointed as an ex mlp fan.

Sweet relief, for both my eyeballs and my artistic sensibilities!

I mean, don't get me wrong, watching Queen Big Screechy Bug Bitch get what was coming to her was a lot of fun. But when I saw the group shot of all the reformed Changelings, holy hell. My eyes haven't burned that much since the last time I went to Perisher and stepped outside without sunglasses.

This version is 200000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than the canon reformed changelings because it still has sharp teeth but the perfect reformed changeling would just be the non-reformed ones with the holes filled in and all given eyes kind of like Chrysalis's except a different color.

aw dude i would've loved this so much more than their canon looks!! it's still got that slightly dark aesthetic while keeping a friendly vibe but without going for fifty oversaturated colours mashed onto one single changeling. It's everything I could've ever wanted from a reformed changeling

I'm kind of in the middle when it comes to the new changelings- I do have problems with the design, but it's not the problems most people seem to have.
I think that first, of all, the new designs are way too complicated, but that's something most people have with them and you addressed in your redesigns so I won't touch on that.
One thing a lot of people seem to dislike is the pastel colors, which I don't think is a big problem, I do think each individual changeling should have their own original color scheme(like the ponies) so having all of them be similar pastel hues is kinda upsetting.
I also don't like the wings- yours are much better! I like them having webbed hair for tails but I think they're fine without manes.
I also like the deer ears way more than these ones but I guess toΒ each their own.
I also really don't like how some of them don't have horns- how are they supposed to use magic?

I know it may sound strange, but to me the canon reformed designs actually feel closer to the old changeling design than these do. The hair might be a part of it -- the, quote unquote, "changedlings" are more or less the old-style 'lings with the holes filled in, plus a metaphorical coat of paint. Adding hair makes them seem like a completely different species, almost.

I think part of it is that both the old and new changeling designs have a very strong insectoid vibe, which is what I feel makes them visually interesting and helps them stand out as more than just another kind of tiny equine -- the fact that the show has kept (strengthened, even) the changelings' association with insects is something I've been honestly very happy about. Making their crests look so much like hair moves their design away from that -- the eyes and wings are the only parts of these designs that seem something other than mammalian.

On a more positive note, I do like the color scheme on these guys. I'm not sure how I feel about shiny bright shades next to matte grey, but I do like the rainbow motif a lot. The color schemes are probably my main gripe with the new designs. Mostly, I'm not too keen on the color pairings -- the yellow with a bit of green works fine, for instance, but the one that's got mint green and bright pink jammed right next to each other... eeeh. So, keeping to one main color for each 'ling like you did here works a lot better in my opinion. Or at least they could have done a better job matching the hues.

I don't like to say "I hate what the show did with reformed changelings." Β I think they're forgettable/uninspired design and they're not bad to look at. Β Although, the only thing I don't like is the body design.

I like how you kept the original flavor with solid color into it. Very good work! ^_^
