Awesome job on the pencils!! I recently came across some of your amazing art in 'The Art of Comic Book inking' by Gary Martin (pencils for Ghost)

Very impressive. The composition is out of this world! And anything with such a great Rogue is always a winner. Kudos.

I love seeing raw pencils like this. It makes one appreciate the finish product so much more! I can't wait to see more from you

It's always very informative to see this - even going back to art from the Renaissance.

interesting...You put little fishie marks where you want it to be black...

Sorry, I just like learnin new techniques for drawing comics. Really awesome pencils here, man.

TerryDodson In reply to lucida-lownes [2010-05-11 15:59:43 +0000 UTC]

Those are sloppy "x's" that everybody uses to indicate blacks to the inker.

lucida-lownes In reply to TerryDodson [2010-05-11 16:02:23 +0000 UTC]

Mm-kay, I like learning new things.

Granted, I just want to be a writer for comic books but it's still fun to draw.

I remember doing the same thing years ago when I saw pencils for the first time.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lucida-lownes In reply to TerryDodson [2010-05-13 15:06:20 +0000 UTC]

So why do you do little x's instead of filling in? Waste of graphite? messes with the inks?

Time!

I should try inking one of these one day for practise. Unless your wife tracks me down and beats me up that is^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TerryDodson In reply to Muady [2010-05-11 16:00:36 +0000 UTC]

The only thing is, a lot of the time I do work on the art after the pencils are scanned and even after Rachel inks it.

But go for it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Muady In reply to TerryDodson [2010-05-11 16:37:30 +0000 UTC]

Oh really so the inks arent always 100% complete
lines?

I dont have any illusions that my inks will be as
nice tho^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TerryDodson In reply to Muady [2010-05-13 15:04:35 +0000 UTC]

For example, as the drawing is getting inked, I will look at it and put more blacks in or remove blacks, etc. It has become a very organic process as Rachel and I have worked side by side for 14 years.

Muady In reply to TerryDodson [2010-05-13 15:27:03 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like a good process.

Ill just be doing it for some fun and practise
tho^^

Awesome work as always. How long does it take you to complete a cover illustration like this? Baring editorial changes and sketches, just pencil work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TerryDodson In reply to garanmad [2010-05-11 16:01:50 +0000 UTC]

As long as I need - I don't worry about time when penciling a cover as that is what SELLS the book. I would guess about 2 days though.
