Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the third largest Mosque in the world, located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Over 80 snow-white domes look like they were built using pure clouds. Though the Mosque is brand new, it draws on classical Islamic architecture.

I'm trying to remember just how many Christian churches were destroyed over the last year in the Middle East.Β
The photo itself is beautiful, but the subject represents violence and religious oppression.Β I would rather see a photo of the desolation left over by those that worship there.Β

well that's a wonderful outlook on this perfect world full of righteousness and peace but political correctness has EVERYTHING to do with photography in certain aspects--I'm an atheist but my observations are that Christianity isn't welcome anywhere really outside of the church. Just saying.

I am the CV who featured it.Β I am 1) atheist myself and 2) really wasn't taking too much political correctness into consideration when it was suggested to me and I approved it.Β At least, not consciously.Β I've long since learned I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.Β If there is any bias I displayed it was probably because I grew up in a family of architects and happen to love beautiful buildings, and because no cathedrals or factories or restaurants or residential/commercial/cultural structures have been suggested to me recently of any photojournalistic significance.Β This is a simple, but effective and beautiful work of photojournalism that was suggested to me.Β While a little dark and simple, it gives a great sense of space and place. Please understand that I sift through tens of thousands of photographs weekly in search of material to feature in articles and DDs and that the vast majority of those are clear propaganda, public executions, boobs, misplaced doodles, wallpapers, and people's personal (sometimes way too personal) photos and more and more is uploaded everyday.Β I can only do so much, so I rely heavily on my suggesters to help me find the gems. You are welcome and I encourage you to suggest anything photojournalism-related to me for consideration anytime.Β It would be a great help to me and the community.
