Description
I had a mini epiphany a few days ago. If I was gonna go full tilt on themed trains or trains of specific eras, things needed to come and things needed to go. This reefer is one of two from the "come" category. This is the Intermountain #46701P -19 Premium Line Pacific Fruit Express R-40-10 Steel Reefer, Road No. 42413. Fully assembled, ready to roll outta the box, perhaps the best looking cars out there outside of brass. At first I was actually going to go for one of the kits but a friend told me the kits had molding issues that were alleviated in premium runs. This side shows the B end with the Union Pacific Herald. The other side is the SP Herald.
This car is currently on the bench for coupler swaps. It has ugly plastic couplers. I found out the hard way that the coupler lids were glued on, and I do not want to risk regluing them back on for fear of bad coupler swing or it just not adhering well, but I have 2-56 screws and the tap on hand. This car is set for 1936, and will be part of my Depression/WWII era trains.
