It is a little odd...Hurricane Sandy? Maybe it came up then. Sort of far fetched, but...it was pretty bad.

it could be, there are a couple of rivers in the area, although the boat wasn't parked anywhere near them

We had severe flooding here, or maybe a car towing it got...detached from it because of the flooding. There was so much damage, but I'm not sure about that far inland what happened. I live right in the middle of the island, so I was safer than most. No electricity for 16 days, which could have been worse! Anyway, I don't see anyone towing it leaving it behind on purpose. It's a real mystery now. Gotta look up those plates!
