Description HO HO HO! MERRY THREE ACT STRUCTURE WONDERLANDMANGA!!!

Wonderlandmanga asked for something Batman or something Mike Mignola. My original plan was to do a Batman/Hellboy face-off kind of thing. But that seemed boring.

And then it came to me when I came up with an idea for the most brilliant tattoo ever. If I ever get a tattoo I'm going to get the word Batman written in Kryptonese! YEAH! Oh...I'd almost go and get that right now.



Anyway...after that mash-up I thought that maybe I should try a mash-up for Wonderlandmanga's picture. Okay...so technically it's not really a mash-up. All I did was try and draw Batman in Mignola's style...but it made sense in my head.

I can be terrible imitating other people's styles on my best days...but trying to recreate Mignola's style is a nightmare. That guy's style is so hard to get a grasp on. I think it's one of those styles that only works in the owner's hands.

I was never really into Hellboy, due to lack of exposure to it, but I recently watched the Hellboy animated movies and now know of, and love, Mignola. I think this turned out fucking MARVELOUS. It's very his style, with the colors and the black shadows. ^^ I could never draw in that style, though. It's just so unique. I think you did a great job.

. . . also, that's a BRILLIANT tattoo idea. ^^

I've never heard of someone being introduced to Hellboy through the animated movies before. In fact...I think you're the first person I know that has actually seen those movies. But I guess it's all the same thing in the end.

Thanks. It's definitely a unique style. I don't know how someone would be able to do it without lots of reference.

LOL Well, I wasn't- I had seen the legit movies before then. But I just got back into Hellboy BECAUSE of the animated movies. They're actually pretty awesome.

your MO is plain lineart and the coloring you do has fairly subtle shading, but if anyone accuses you of not knowing how to lay down the hardcore shading, slap this in front of them and tell them to SUCK YOUR ASS!

i would wear this on a t-shit SO HARD.

I often tell people to suck my ass anyways...but it has nothing to do with illustrations.

I had to use a lot of reference for this though. I know you're probably thinking I'm just trying to weasel out of accepting a compliment but it's true. I'd feel guilty about accepting praise for something I needed a LOT of help with. There's about 10% I probably assed myself...but they were just little tiny things I couldn't find reference for.

So...yeah. Just explaining is all. Not avoiding the compliment.

Glad ya like it. I was originally gonna just leave it as black and white...but it didn't seem Mignola enough like that. And then I realised that if you draw shadows and stuff then colouring is a lot quicker and easier! So colour it was.

I'm sure it will be.

I dunno if this is Mignola style or not or if you really did have trouble nailing it, but from an outsider's point of view, it's still awesome. The intense shading and such. . .I have a couple of buddies who go apeshit for dark value like that.

It IS a tricky thing to do. I mean, just imagine all those lines you have to cover up to do it! It's like. . .like murder! For the greater impact of art, but still, murder!!

I thought this trip into techniques I never use might shock you.

I can't take much credit for it though. I didn't do this from my head. I had comics open in front of me and I used them as guides. I don't think there's anything I came up with on my own. Maybe the colours but it's Batman. It's not like I had to think of colours.
