Next in my new DC Feudal Japan reimaginings project, we have Green Lantern.

Jōtarō Haruchika is the son of Jōtarō Matabei, a key retainer of the Watanabe Clan and master of their cavalry division. Following the assassination of clan head Tomohisa and his wife, Matabei leads the cavalry forces into battle with a rival clan looking to take advantage of the tragedy to conquer the Watanabe territories. Little does he know that the enemy has hired a band of rifle-wielding mercenaries, whose weapons annihilate Matabei's army.

Twenty years later, Haruchika follows in his father's footsteps as a cavalryman and retainer of the significantly weakened Watanabe. During a heated battle, Haruchika spots the same band of mercenaries once again fighting against the Watanabe. Pursuing them, Haruchika rides directly into an ambush that leaves him as the sole survivor. Fleeing into the woods, he is soon surrounded by the mercenaries. Preparing to make a final stand, Haruchika is saved by a shooting star crashing in the area.

Moving to investigate, Haruchika comes across a strange metal carriage with a purple-skinned man inside. The man, bearing a crest in the shape of a lantern, urges Haruchika to take a small green ring in some alien tongue. With little else to lose, Haruchika does so, and finds his mind filled with understanding. He is now a member of a peace-keeping force from beyond the stars: The Green Lanterns. Utilising the ring's power to manifest any item he desires in a hard light form, he forges himself a suit of armour, a sword and a horse.

The mercenary band are mostly wiped out by Haruchika, who vows to honour his father's legacy, and that of the mysterious man from another world, as Midori no Tōrō, the first Green Lantern of Earth.
