Is the hyperdetail something you do compulsively, or is it a conscious decision to challenge yourself?
I like it either way, gives the characters so much depth and pop

It's mostly a subconscious thing. I intend for my work to be less cluttered, but I often zone out while drawing and impulse forces my hand. One part ends up with too much visual weight and I have to go back and even it out.
I try to utilize this to the best of my abilities, but it makes for a very time consuming process.
