An original character design I put together with the help of the extremely talented !
I really like how he turned out...now if only I could figure out what to do with him...

Originally came up with the character with the idea of doing a comic homage to 90s platformers (i.e. Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot); Naturally I'd need a hero to start with.

Anthropormorphic animals were (and kinda still are) the standard. But what kind of animal?
Being a Sonic nerd, I remembered that before becoming the speedy blue hedgehog, the creator had first pitched the idea of a rabbit whose long ears could be used to pick up items...rabbits are quick and great jumpers, seemed perfect for a platformer.

But how do I make him unique? Then it dawns on me-instead of a regular rabbit, why not make him a Jackalope? It's mythical creature that's really unique to America, and doesn't show up frequently in popular culture! Also helps that I have a slightly personal connection to the creature.

I did later shelve the original 90's platformer comic concept in favor of something else, but I still enjoyed the idea of a Jackalope character. I'm sure I'll find a place for one somewhere down the line...
