Description Anyone who goes to Maui has heard of the Haleakala sunrise. Not all do it. We did. It was worth getting up at 2:30 AM for. If you ever go, do it your first morning while you're still on USA time. I recommend against the bike ride down. It's freezing cold and lots of people get hurt.

I lol at anyone who takes the Haleakala Bike Ride, somebody got killed a year ago.

I know what you mean, the sunset/sunrise is beautiful from at the top. The hawaiians believed being on Haleakala meant there spirits were closer to the heavens.

Where did you take this, at the very top or at Hosmer's grove? I prefer going to the very top, but the view from about halfway is still good. xD

I think this was a bit lower down. I took a bunch of shots from the visitor center (I think that's what it was) and also at the top. It was Damn cold up there!

Again, like that other shot I commented on, this seems so heavenly. So.. perfect. It almost doesn't seem real.

That's exacly how it felt being there...almos unreal. Except there was a strong cold wind reminding me how real it was!

Such contrasts as that are wonderful to experience: hot against cold or cold against hot, real against the surreal or the ethereal... Must have been a near-perfect moment.

Stunning! There’s no other way to explain the colors and atmosphere. Just looking at this picture I can’t help but imagine that I’m looking at a sunrise from the top of the world. I wish I knew how to say what a beautiful picture this is…

Thank you. I actually had the same feelings when I was there the sky had amazing colors in it which I had never seen in a sky before.

Nothing short of amazing!

I like that solo star along side the moon.

Just a beautiful photo.

Wow. Reminds me of those early morning tram rides up the mountain to be the first to snowboard the powder. Awesome image. I can't wait till I graduate college and have the oppurtunity to see the things you see.

I can't wait to photograph them

Thanks for the inspiration to work harder!

Graduation is a good thing. You'll dig it, but you'll also miss school sometimes.

Yeah, I'm just starting college. 4 years to go and already looking forward to it. I hope it goes by fast, but at the same time I hope I do well and enjoy myself! Have a good day.

Well if the sunrise is too much for some people the sunset is always another option. I've been to Maui one and I live on Oahu, Nice place, but hated the wavy roads I got car sick 'cuz of it. But the good part of the trip is the view and that is one of them.

Unreal! I've gone a number of times, but never viewed it as pristinely as you captured it on film.

No, you have to get started at 2:30 AM. This was probably more like 5AM
