So I recently DLed a copy of Doukutsu Monogatari/Cave Story (Check it out here: [link] ). Being a Metroid/Castlevania buff, when I heard about the similarities, I had to give it a try.It was, in two words, "Holy Shit." Yes, that good. Yes, I know this game has been out a while, but I had to say it. It blew me away, and knowing that it was all done by just one man made it even more mind-boggling.
So of course I had to do some fan art.
In case you're wondering about the title, it refers to the names of the two characters in the picture, which are, oddly enough, "Quote" and (Curly Brace). Also, I tried to retain the cutesy style of the original game art... though I probably didn't do such a hot job. I realize the guns aren't accurate, and the foreshortening could use a bit of work, but all in all I'm somewhat proud of this piece. C&C is welcome, as usual.

It's still pretty good. Ironically, Cave Story+ has a Curly mode where Quote and Curly's roles are switched (you play as her instead). She gets the Polar Star like Quote would and he gets the machine gun. So, in a why, this picture is accurate!

Splendid detail, such accurate anatomy!! This is truly a remarkable masterpiece, although I do agree with CastForth in saying that Quote's scarf should be green, but who cares? The first thing people should be noticing is Curly's panties~ :3

Well, I think you did a great job! The detail is amazing, and it's pretty hard to imagine the guns accurately, considering they're composed of like 5-10 pixels in-game, so you really can't be accused of drawing them wrong, although a white star on the side of the Polar Star might have helped. The depiction of the labyrinth is surreal and creative, and the enemies are incredibly well-illustrated and make it so much more of a scene than just a picture. The TWO things that throw me a bit off though are that Quote's eyes are blue, and, if I recall correctly, his scarf should be green, at least in more detailed depictions of him. But that's just me being a Cave Story nut, and doesn't even have anything to do with the art itself, so nevermind that! Great, great job!

quotes and curly braces are used a lot in programming syntax
quotes are used to define sequences os characters (letters and numbers mostly), it's used to work with text most of the times
and curly braces are used to separete blocks os commands for certain conditions or to define functions
example:
if (condition == true){
variable = "value";
}
i'm guessing that the game was first made in C, C++ or Java
but i'm not sure if it is because of it that they have these names

Awesome work! I think the foreshortening is GREAT, and that was really creative with the title. All the characters look great, and I love the L-block in the back- a Tetris Reference, perhaps? Anyway, great job and keep up the great work!

Out of all of the CS fanart I've seen yet, this is probably my favorite. Captures the cartoony nature of the game while still keeping it awesome. Great work. A fav for sure.

The detail you put into Quote and Curly, I have to say, is pretty impressive. There's enough to make it stand out and look good, but not so much to become distracting. Good choice in colors, and the shading and lighting is excellent! I think the style used looks really close to Pixel's, too. c: All in all, it looks great!
This is one of my favorite parts of the game. C: I'm glad someone did some art of it.

Absolutely adorable! The only issue I have with this piece (and it's not wrong, it just makes me sad) is that you have Quote equipping Curly's machine gun... Anybody else who has overplayed the game will understand my horrible sense of foreboding. T__T

Very nicely done - a great tribute to a great game. I love the perspective and the little details. "Polar*" on the gun was an especially nice touch. I also like how the direction of everyone's gaze draws your attention right to Curly's enthusiastic face.

You know, I'd realized, individually, that they were punctuation individually (I'd actually originally thought her name was a mistranslated Carly), but it hadn't occurred to me that they were both punctuation.
umm... If you don't mind me nitpicking, in your description you said her name was (Curly Brace). Those are parentheses. {These} are curly braces.

Man, that's nice! Cave Story is truly a well-crafted and excellent game. And this is a worthy piece of fan art for it! I like the combination of the cutesy style with the realistic rendering of wrinkles, cracks and shadows...it works well here. I'd offer some criticism, but frankly this piece is out of my league, and I wouldn't know what errors to look for.
