Oh, what beautiful artwork you have in your gallery. And yes I think this piece is worth a comment, even if my comment isn't worth the time it takes to read.
It's simple, it's clean and it's pretty. Everything one could ask for.

WOW MAN, A HEART IN A BOX. don't you have an angsty teenage poetry reading to go to? Yeah i know you tried to talk your work down in your description so you could elicit some sympathy comments but I'm here to tell you straight out that this is banal and shitty.

I find it interesting that the box--is it being opened for the first time? Closed for the last?--is made of glass. That even the guardian of the heart is so open, so fragile, that the slightest mishandling could mar or shatter it. I find the coloration of the heart fascinating, dirty and bruised, but still clean and bright at that one upper corner like a kind of innocence, and the lingering idea that purity hangs on, a tenacious beast, as some kind of unlovely virtue even after everything else is beaten and stripped away. I like the burlap texture of the 'cushion' it rests on, flat and rough. It says something, I think, not for how others handle our hearts but for how -we- do, and maybe that strikes me through the rest of it as well--whose fault is it, whose hands, that have battered this little organ so much? Gold and white are colors for purity, glass is about having nothing to hide. This is what I know. But handing the box around with an open top is different from letting the heart out of prison, and I know that too. This is a personal piece, I'm sure, but I hope you don't mind that it's deeply personal for me as well--over the course of my life and in these most recent and emotionally turbulent of times. Looking up at the image again I'm positive I see smudges, maybe fingerprints, on the glass. . .and I walk away with that more than almost anything.
I can't think of a single shrink or therapy I've ever had in all my years of seeking them that makes me examine myself and the world around me the way you do. Even with things you say aren't worth the glance or comment, you stir up things I'm too damned scared or stubborn to touch otherwise. You are truly a force to be reckoned with.

for some strange reason i got the name of the song heart shaped box by nirvana on the mind when i saw this. it's really lovely the concept of a sealed heart yet it's not closed out from the world but it's shy. it doesn't expose itself completely. you can see it, be close to it, but can't grasp it.
