Description A model I plan to submit to Hasbro's Super Fan Art at Shapeways.

Modeled and Rendered in Modo 801. Will start prepping for 3D Printing soon. The pose was designed with two legs a bit bulkier to prepare for hollowing. The other back leg and tail also touch the ground for balance. The tail also touches one of the legs so it can't break off easily.  Certain details like the eyelashes are embossed and won't break.

The style wasn't mean to match the original perfectly, instead a simple attempt to strike a balance between the original and the transition as a 3D character. The body proportions are still close to the 2D version.

12/15/14 - Rarity is now available for sale:

Thought I'd let you know-- since the dumb bookmarklet app doesn't bother to notify anyone when it gets used-- that I've had over 200 likes and reblogs of this amazing model on Tumblr.

The sobbing Rarity is a nice print, looks on model, but the users other submissions of her lacked a bit of that. I looked at the Shapeways rotation of it, surprised I couldn't locate it hollowed anywhere, like an escape hole or the base being a shell. So I wonder if it could be made more cost effective.

Right now the selling price for my print may be $45. That's if it passes the stricter printability tests and goes live as is. It's also 4.5" tall, 115mm. Most ponies on Shapeways are 70-75mm tall and not much more affordable, so this should be an impressive size and detail. A test print should arrive next week, but hoping they take a studio photo first.

Just placed the first test order last night. The height came to 4.5 inches tall (115mm). Most ponies on Shapeways are 2.75 to 3 inches (70-75mm), so it's actually quite large compared to the rest, which is needed for the detail. Yet, the selling price may be $45 if all goes to plan, but due to some terms, may go up Jan 1st. Got my fingers crossed that she stands correctly, tried to get her legs to form a tripod, plus the tail is used too.

I'll be out of town for Christmas time, so the UPS shipping windows aren't in my favor at the moment.  Rest assured though, I'll be ordering one as soon as I can!

Wow she is simply gorgeous! If shapeways wasn't so expensive, I would have all of the ponies in 3d. I do however plan on getting the pixel style versions of them. I already have Discord.

If you don't mind, I'm curios to know what price range would entice you, and or size of the print for value? I hope to better understand the market so I don't go overboard and make prints no one can afford. Pricing a print can be tricky. Making it smaller to use less material can backfire since then there's no room to hollow it out, so expensive and small. If you gradually increase the size, you can hit a sweet spot where you can hollow it out and end up costing close to smaller prints, but get a better bang for your buck. This print may be 4.5 inches tall to support details and hollow through holes in the hooves, so rather larger compared to the the average shapeways pony of 2.75-3inches.

The price with a little bit of markup may be set for $45. If I make it smaller, I may have to put a an unsightly hole somewhere and thicken some details. That may knock $9 off, and closer to 4inches tall. But if people are already spending that much, that extra half inch for $9 more really benefits the model with a bigger size and shows more detail.

I'm not a good person to ask about prices, seeing as I never ever haggle and buy things full value even though I know they'll go on sale. A statuette like this with that much detail is certainly worth what you think of asking for.
