I fail so bad at moon pictures, I can't get anything more than a bright white blob.
This is beautiful, I love it, except for the moon's jagged edges on the right side that make it look photoshopped....

While I ran to get my tripod, the moon got bright enough to blow out, too. So I had to paste some from a darker exposure.. but the edge is real - it's the craters on the surface that crack the light

I can often see it with a naked eye..
for a picture, if you want some landscape to be visible, the moon has to be very low and quite dark.. otherwise you have to use spot metering or manual exposure and get the sky all black if you want the moon exposed right

I can see what is in the middle with the naked eye, just not the craters on the edges.
Have you ever managed to get a picture that is just the moon in the sky? That is mostly what I keep trying, I haven't had very good landscapes to ad to the photo usually...
I think I've only gotten 1 good moon picture and that's because it was focused on the tree in front of it... and there were clouds masking it's brightness.

I did some moon-only shots, but they're just boring..
like I said, you just need to figure out manual exposure or spot-meter on the moon if you have that in your cam.. good zoom might help, too

I suck at manual exposures... I always end up with everything too white or too black.
What do you mean a spot-meter? I probably don't have that in my camera if I don't know what it is.

you should have something that lets you choose betewwn Evaluative, Center Weighted and Spot under the Function menu.. that's metering, and spot means it sets the exposure for whatever's in the center of the frame or under the focus point-and there should be moon

one edge of the moon looks jagged and cut off...

that's because it wasn't fully lit and the light jaggs on the craters.. I actually shouldn't have sharpened that edge so much
