I'm a visual person and I tend to do my thinking through drawing... Just revisiting how I draw Link with this sketch - while trying to make him more semi realistic, I noticed I also made him look a lot older than what I've drawn previously O_o hmm... actually preferring this though...Yes, it's messy as. My 'thinking' sketches are usually done within 5mins so it ain't going to be great XD

These all look really great! ...But I guess I just prefer Link's anime style better. That one of Link in the sandstorm was my favorite visage of him, but l just think your latest and favorite way to draw himΒ just hasn't looked like Link...This picture is at the very edge of what I can perceive as Link. In yourΒ most recentΒ works, he just looks like someone else. But your male design does look extremely similar, in general, forΒ all of your male characters. I remember you wrote in a caption on one of your drawings of Link that you like your men to look like men and not boys, and I guess I can see your point~ But a lot of "men" don't look like the average model of a man; angular chin, protruding brow bone, etc. I'm not just commenting to complain about how you draw Link~ I'd definitely prefer your drawings over most of the others out there. Its just that I want to challenge you to include more deviation between your representations of male characters.

Thanks and I can understand where you're coming from - the reason why I chose to go semi realistic with my style is because it allows me to better differentiate between characters as anime/manga and cartoon styles tend to suffer from same-face-different-hair syndrome.Β However, I note that my current preferred style is not true realism so I will be exaggerating features as I see fit.Β Generally, because I draw a lot of fighting game fan art, the head and hands to body ratio is quite obviously different to what it is in real life.Β As for the way I draw men, I do use references and I have found a facial proportion that I quite like from pictures of real men (again exaggerated in parts)Β Since this style is relatively new for me, I will be looking into improving it and adding more differentiation between characters as I come to understand it more - inventing realistic-ish looking features is harder to do with this than a cartoon style.Β As for what Link looks like, I guess I have pushed it beyond the accepted 'canon' image if you will, but if you look at all the incarnations of him in the games they all vary so much it's hard to say what he really looks like so I have taken the liberty to invent my preferred image of him since I was always interested in what he'd look like if he was older and more like a real person instead of a cartoon character - keeping key features intact of course but just interpreted.
