Description This I found in one of the rooms in my village house, one summer. I gently carried it outside and took a series of pictures.

It was an amazing thing. Even now I can hardly explain myself how gravity was working and how loose was the candle attached to the candlestick, so this could happen as it did. I've seen other bended candles before, but this was really great.

I still remember how pleased was I when taking pictures of that object

how nice; few months ago i visited my grandmother and luckily i could make a similar picture with a candlestick on a wall^^^
i love the manipulation, so it doesnΒ΄t seem like a photo but more like a painting and the coloration is pretty cool
it is awesome how the candle is only fixed at the one single point but it appears as if the end would melt and the candle could fall down in a moment
the background is very nice, too; just like eyes staring at the happening

No questions are asked except "How did this happen to the candle?"
Still, I'll address the photo itself. As for the candle holder, perhaps the surface it's on makes the base of the holder appear one way and the top of it another. Can you see that too? Viewers look into the top of the holder but at the top of the bottom. That's kind of "amazing." Maybe the holder itself is also loose. Age seems evident too. Is the holder moslty wood? What's the band I see around it?
I very much like how you use color here, the sepia tones. They're splotched for the background (your'e outside, after all and lights change there) yet the railing on the house, candle and holder are in sharp focus. That's all good.
The deep shadows on candle-holder and candle help lead viewers to focus on them, as do the edges of lighter shades. It's interesting how alike the little spike in the holder and the wick on the candle look. It makes me (as a viewer) think that particular holder wasn't up to the job of holding that large of a candle.
In summary, the holder seems fit for smaller candles and that's why a larger one fell over. You're right to "gently [carry] it outside" and take pictures. This one tells a story - like all good photos should.

Thanks for the incredible feedback you gave to this photo. I cannot not adrees some of your speculations.

The cnadle bended over the holder because of the warm weather. This was taken in the summer, and what a hot summer it was in 2008. The candle probably began slowly melting and it became soft. The gravity did the rest. That is why it incised itself into the edge of the plate of the holder.

The holder was made of cupper, so it was metalic not wood. I was very careful carrying this thing through the house to the outside

I didn't quite get the first note you made about the top and bottom of the holder, but If I understood right you mean the rather unusual and strange perspective. This is interesting, because I took the shot from a distance, with maximum focal length(zoom) and I tried to align my eyelevel with the holder. The result is one odd perspective, but I'm very glad that you like it.

You recognized the railing on the house, yet you've never seen that place and you do not know where I've taken that picture, so good job on that! Great eye for detail!

You are very welcome.

I didn't notice when you took the photo but after I posted my comments, I thought:
"That candle must have gotten hot at the bottom, maybe from falling candle wax."
I never thought of hot weather.
Thank you for telling me that.

I bet you were careful with that candle and holder.

Yes, I did mean the unusual perspective, the appearance I already described.
And you're right, I do like it.

I like your avatar, for that matter ...

Hi Niky! This certainly is a lucky shot. The ways of gravity are unpredictable - at least sometimes I had to look twice to understand what exactly is before my eyes. Eventually, the wick of the candle provided the clue for me. The fact that you don't know what you are looking at the very first instant makes you think about it - and this is great for a photo. The sepia tinge and background fit the subject well, too. The blur of the background is carefully and fittingly set.
I just have one suggestion to make (of course it only expresses my personal taste): i would have tried a portrait orientation with the candle stick moved a tiny bit to the right border so that the candle is centered. Apart from that, the photo is well done!

Wow, I didn't expect to get such a warm reception. You are very welcome. Of course the feedback I gave is just an expression of my personal taste and I don't know how the result will actually feel like. If you try it, let us know whether you like it or not.

Lucky it was, indeed!

The background, the background, why, thank you! I've played a little with it, though.

About that modern art thing? What is your idea exactly?
