Description Inspired by the literature work by Ryunosuke Akutagawa's "Kumo no Ito"
size: 24"x48"? maybe larger
media: charcoal, chalk, pencil, smudged with hand

the story (in brief) is as follows:
God, in form of a spider, dangles a spider's thread down to hell to save a man named Kandata. Kandata sees the thread andgrabs on to it, but other hell dwellers see that and all start rampaging towards it, trying to be saved. Kandata is scared that the web will snap so he starts fighting his way up the web. God sees that and is disappointed by his actions, and cuts the web loose, Kandata and the ghosts all fall back to hell.

I tried to draw the struggle Kandata has in hell. To depict Hell, I drew black flames using my hand (smudging charcoal and chalk) on a rough surface to create the walls of hell. I only managed to draw 30 ghosts but my original intention was to completely fill the bottom half of the drawing with them (just think of Resident Evil/28 days later/dawn of the dead kinda picture). The web was done in light and light shines from the top to create a contrast between the struggle below and the hope above.

I am scouting for work for my Lost Book Club and Museum , and I think this piece would be a good fit. I wonder if you would grant us permission to post it in the club gallery for the amazement and edification of our small but growing audience. I thank you for considering this request.

Best Regards,
