i admire this piece for a number of reasons.

compared to the other works in ton haring's impressive gallery, this one stands out as one of his more unrestrained works.

seemingly belched directly out of his subconscious, the fluid and warped imagery seems to have been, through the initial sketching of it, quickly drawn in some sort of feverish half-trance.

what really breathes life into it is ton's masterful use of his medium in applying color and creating depth and texture.

thus he takes what seems to be a warped (and maybe even slightly incoherent) feverdream of some sort and sets forth to understand it, breathing life and depth into each little detail. not a single inch of it treated as insignificant or inconsequential.

the painting itself is gorgeous, but the act of him painting such a creation, i find, to be just a fascinating in this hauntingly gorgeous work which appears to depict unease, subtle horror, and beauty in observing forces beyond one's control.

A unique concept, wonderfully executed. Balance of the composition is pleasing, and the colouring feels "right" in every regard. The cyans and aquas in the upper portion of the painting harmonize quite nicely with the ambers and golds in the lower half. Surfaces are smooth, and the degree of realism is in fitting with the subject.

The lines draw us to the tortued face, and the arm reaches out, attempting to breach the tortuous cycle (and circle) of life - but the cycle always returns us to ourselves, for better or worse. I've no idea if this was your original intent, but in any case it's a brilliant metaphor.

I have nothing negative to say, Ton. It's a fine piece.

We cannot know all of ourselves; we need others to explore and define us objectively, and then their findings are disappointing, even disgusting and sometimes wrong; we constantly think from our own perspective consciously and unconsciously, our mind's eye looking inwardly but with bias, and the more we increase the power of the microscope the more disappointed and disgusted we become by what is revealed.

Well done!

My favourite probably. The colors are so raw and beautiful. I love the nose poking out on the right side.
