Gwen and Adria are playing with Gwen's tea set
I need to practice backgrounds and stuff more often, I could definitely use it (I'm sure you can tell from looking at that tree stump). I could practice painting in general, cause I think they both stand out a little too much compared to the scenery. Since I lined them and everything else is painted...
I always wanna get better at backgrounds, but then I never feel like practicing. I make no sense lol.

You really should try backgrounds more often, because this one looks great! I'm not sure what brushes you experimented with, but they're soft and fluffy enough to make the foliage incredibly alluring. Your color choices were also completely spot-on and you've managed the difficult task (to me at least) of accurately adding strong highlights to the edges of surfaces.
An area I think you could improve is shading - the two characters should really have more shadows on the side we're seeing them on, because it's opposite the sun, and likewise the stump should be casting some over the ground and basket - but you clearly understand the theory behind it and it was just a small oversight. Excellent work!

Thank you very much! Colors are something that I try my absolute best to be accurate at (that and lighting). I used different texture brushes (don't quite know the names) and I thought they did a good job of capturing the effect I was going for as well. Also, I agree on the shading. Sometimes I'm reluctant to get too dark, but I now see that it's very necessary depending on the lighting. I had a feeling I should have done more with the stump and basket, I'll have to think about stuff like that next time.

Oh definitely, one of the best things children (and adults too if they want) can play with. I had one as a kid, you can spend so much time playing with one and not even realize it

I think that the characters don't stick out too much. They look really nice I actually like the texture of the stump. I love the lil pink flowers too!

I have the same problem. Generally what I do is a pick a color from the background and overlay it on the characters to help them blend in more with the environment.
