Description
Character's Name: John
Age: At least 3000 years, it's a little hard to keep track of the centuries though
Gender: Male (usually?)
Species: Kumiho/Gumiho
Height/Weight: Human - 5'10" / usually 9.5 stone-ish (130lbs)
Fox - Variable. Small as a red fox, or large as a tiger. Claims capability to be larger, once he has more tails.
WDSA Status: Unregistered
Abilities:
- Can phase through solid objects (including flesh) in either human or fox form. He can choose to only phase one particular part of himself, such as a hand or foot, or his entire body.
- Shapeshifting: Not only can he change between his favourite human form and his fox form, he can assume the image of anyone he has taken soul essence from.
- Strange anatomy: His fox form, being spiritual in nature, can contort and bend in some very peculiar and unnatural fashions.
- Mental manipulation: To those with weak wills or minds, he can create illusions of an auditory, visual and/or olfactory nature
- John has a degree of supernatural charm and seduction, which is especially potent on females. If given enough time, he can bring someone completely under his sway, to the point they'll do whatever he wants and abandon any previous partner without hesitation.
- Soul stealing: Through use of his supremely long tongue, John can force his fox marble down the throat of a victim and absorb their soul (sometimes just a portion of it). Doing so renders him very vulnerable at the point of marble extrication, so he makes sure his target is alone and completely under his sway first.
- Due to his spiritual nature, he doesn't leave fingerprints and the liquid he 'bleeds' doesn't register as blood if a sample was taken
If he can retrieve more of his tails, John will gain more of his lost abilities.
Weaknesses:
- Extreme fondness for alcohol, to the point of being rendered senseless
- Currently in a weakened, mortal state (due to his missing tails) and can be physically interacted with and harmed to the point of death. While he can take more damage than an average human, he still feels extremely vulnerable. Even his fox form can be rendered physical by someone with the right spiritual knowledge, which isn't something he likes at all.
- Can be bound by someone with spiritual powers/knowledge to do so and is affected by abilities that affect spirits.
- His fox marble contains accumulated knowledge and the soul essence of those he has consumed. If someone were to get a hold of it, while they couldn't destroy it by any normal means, they'd render him near powerless and would gain access to said knowledge.
(It should be noted that those without spiritual resistance would begin to be influenced by the fox marble over time, if they have skin contact with it, to the point of craving livers and being very tempted to do terrible things to other people.)
History: Once John had reached the peak of his powers, an accumulation of nine tails that he took great pride in, the kumiho spent his days being catered to by a large group of devout followers, who regularly brought him the most delectable of women, sweet treats, fruits and alcohol to consume. He terrorised the local area, but also kept out any other potentially dangerous creatures that might intrude on his territory. He struck an odd balance between terror and protectiveness, creating a subset of people that were oddly attached to him and terrified of what else lurked in the world, outside the grip of their bestial lord.
However, his activities gained the attention of Hunters, spiritual and religious peoples, who sought to bring an end to his rein. Through a culmination of years worth of preparation, spells and a vast amount of alcohol, these people managed to bind John, tear his most precious feature, his tails, from him and render him powerless. Mortal. He watched as they cast all but one of his tails to the four winds, was unable to defend himself as they set upon him, intent on killing him. Unfortunately for the Hunters, their prey would escape, for at moment of his demise the kumiho desperately screamed into the void, to be answered by a demon. The entity saw a chance to strike a deal and gain entry into the mortal world, while John recognised his only chance to survive; thus it and the fox forged a spur of the moment, haphazard deal that saved the kumiho but forced him to harbour the demon's soul alongside his own.
In the following years, John and the demon shared a mortal body, each one striking deals back and forth until they came to an accord that benefited the both. The demon would conjure a ritual to return John's tails to him - the kumiho had already lived long enough to warrant all nine, after all, it was his right to have them! - while the fox would help accumulate souls for the demon, since he had an easier time getting a hold of them. Eventually, it wanted to have it's own body, but was very choosy about it.
Having made his way to Wathais, John set about integrating himself into sections of the city that would most benefit information gathering and an accumulation of power through people. By this time, he had managed to gain two tails, placing himself a third of the way to his goal and sought the perfect hosts for further rituals. He began to selectively surround himself with those who would further his endeavours, supers and humans who appealed to his personality, had desires he could exploit and powers he could use for his own gain.
Very recently, he has come to acquire ownership of the Underground's cage fighting rings, after the previous leader disappeared without a trace. A good venture for scoping out strong, capable supers and keeping up with the latest in underhand gossip, the kumiho has quite neatly positioned himself within the city.
Personality: John is an extremely vain, horrible creature, who delights in the suffering of others, especially if he is the one to inflict it. He is, however, capable of being a charming, polite and incredibly attractive individual, so much so that many have no idea how malevolent he is until it's far too late (or he recognises them as a someone who shares his tastes, in which case they'll see the murderous side of him very quickly). The victims he chooses to consume are always 'beautiful' in a way that he deems fit and it is not often that he will partake of men, though he has been known to.
Those designated for the ritual to return his tails will always be redheaded women.
He often takes the long term view, manipulating or making deals with those around him, befriending and helping them even, if it means that in the long run he'll get what he wants. As such, he often generates a following of very loyal, devoted people around him; giving them what they need/want in exchange for something towards what he wants, protecting them from harm and generally providing an environment where they want to serve him... with a healthy dose of terror over what he might do to them if they get on the wrong side of him.
His methods of tormenting people often link back to his mischievous, deceiving nature. He'll trick people into believing they're being haunted by a dead relative (whom he likely murdered), or invade their life and systematically ruin every relationship they have. Perhaps he'll make the walls bleed yet no-one can see it but you, wait until you're just about to fall asleep and catch you in sleep paralysis so he can lean over and reach into your ribcage to caress your lungs while you can't move, or shift all the furniture in your house 2 inches to the right, so you keep bumping into things. Really, who can say? It depends how he feels on the day.
