Description
A commission for , who requested mlp characters as different types of dragons from the Wings of Fire universe. This was... interesting, because while some of them have obvious parallels, others don't. I got creative, and I broke from the conventional color schemes several times, but oh well.From top to bottom we have:
Darksparkle, Nightwing
Dash, Skywing/Rainwing hybrid
Pinky, Rainwing
Rarity, Icewing
Glimmer, Seawing
Applejack, Mudwing
Flutter, Sandwing

I only recently started doing this full time. For a few years I had a day job, and I slowly built up my commissions on the side. I think it was an ok way to do things, all things considered.

I use a system to improve my art, where I chose one thing in particular I want to focus on learning to do better. Something I'm not good at, or feel I could be doing better. Wings were one of the first things I ever focused on in this way. Backgrounds are a more recent addition, but I've gotten much better at them as well. Right now, I'm trying to do more dynamic, fluid poses and more interesting character designs.

Holy, epically sensational! These Wondrous My Little Pony Wings of Fire Dragons are stunning and The Sunset Background looks incredible. The designs, expressions, poses, wings, horns, tails, spikes, ridges, eyes, head crests, fur patterns, claws, nails, wing patterns, markings, scales, feathers, flight, sky, sunlight, rays, interactions, cuteness, shyness, gleam, glow, shadows, movement, flow, effects, perspective, realisticness, atmosphere, hues, textures, concept, composition, uniqueness, style, colors, lighting, and other details are also outstanding. Oh this is so neat, what a cool idea for a commission. You totally could've made Starlight a Nightwing alongside Twilight, but I like that you branched out and did something different with her design.Speaking of Twilight, she is absolutely GORGEOUS. There's also something kind of brilliant to Rainbow Dash as a Rainwing hybrid, outside of the color palette. She is the one you see taking afternoon naps most often.

The idea, since there were seven characters for the commission, and seven dragon tribes, was to have one from each.

Well, the idea was for each character to represent a different tribe of dragon, that way none would be left out, though you're right and Starlight could've been a NightWing too. A few of them have wiggle room like that.
While I preferred each of the Mane Six (and Starlight) be associated with one specific tribe rather than go with hybrids, it was a clever choice to do a Rain/Sky hybrid for Rainbow Dash. That was Turnip's idea. But in terms of overall personality, RainWings are far more Pinkie-like than Rainbow. The colors are the only real connection, in my opinion. After all, MudWings like naps too.

I'm honestly surprised there isn't more fan art and stories of the two series crossing over. I know when I read WoF I definitely got an MLP:FiM feel from it (albeit in a rather general sense). There are a few incomplete fanfics on FimFiction that also broach the idea, but none that involve the Mane Six (and Starlight Glimmer) actually becoming dragons. I was surprised by that and thought, might as well correct this oversight!
I did see one picture on DA that had the Mane Six as dragons after I commissioned this piece.
