2hr 45 min PS 6, Airbrush.. no ref (duh lol)a reworked image for some freelance work, it is sorta a tribute to 3 things:
All giant mecha stories that inspire
All the designers behind them
A Song of the same title, performed by Europe
err..My creature has got 2 tails ;p Also, that is a video feed you are looking thru hence the noise and such, and that timer we all love that came from Neon Genesis Evangelion ;p Cept this symbolises the 'point of breach' .. 23 more seconds..

oh yeah, it should be big enough for a nice wall at 1024 768 resPS: it was interesting how this piece came to life, after adding borders i reworked the hand so that it sort of pushed against it, the monster bracing itself against a -imaginary- structure.. then i remembered NGE's huge blast doors and ...

With that bamboo and photoshop all you need is inspiration to draw. That's how most of us did it

i love mechs, and this has a somewhat unique look to it, kinda reminds me of somethin asa might make...heh
although its got alot of smear, the detail is pretty good..the wries..little joints and circle bits..and the trimmingz
looks sortov alien looking too....
hey i saw a weird mech once on an an anime program...i think it was purple..it looked like an alien..and it had a small little dot eye..and it grabbed some other mech and then detonated itself, cant remember where i saw it...been trying to look for it but cant find it..bah

I'm just amazed by the quality and the techniques used in that piece. This is moving in front of my screen This is moving out of my screen. And I must say I truly love the colors. A masperpiece.

"Blast doors"?? Doors, that take a good amount of blasting? Gah, I woulda never came with that particular term-- it's been years since I last saw any Eva. Were those just doors that lead to corridors in which gargantuan things (like the Evas, or... Lilith) were kepts? Hmm.. I think I also remember a buncha doors frantically being closed as NERV was being invaded by humans, but then again I may be mixing that up, as that's some pretty common "oh no, they're invading! shut all doors, immediately, and make sure they close REAALLY slowly!" imagery.

^_^ blast doors arent a fantastical term. its used in every fortification that requires NBC protection (nowadays) or just to serve as a huge mobile barricade

MORE Eva influence! It's always amazing to see fantasy objects/characters we're intensely familiar with and love rendered realistically and beautifully as you've done here. You know I love it. 
This actually looks like watercolor. How'd you do that?
P.S.: The other piece I commented on was just nice to see, as it had Eva stuff, but I didn't care for it much (as you said, it started as an overdone sketch
