I love how you made the steed a feathered serpent; it's a nice departure from the typical pterosaurs or wyverns.

It's like I'm looking at a picture made by a Japanese man from the 1800's or before who got lucky to watch the movie series of Lord of the Rings. Now he is drawing what stood out to him the most about that movie. Given the setting, you tastefully added more color to the mountain and the wraith so that it looks really good. I suspect that you colored this picture the way you did because you had a good time watching the movie the first time you saw it. This picture is mellow and very tastefully put together. If I were to have the LOTR anthology, I would prefer to use your illustrations. Very Good Work!

These kind of styles are the more apt for Tolkien illustrations, in my opinion. The more stylized the better, epsecially considering how vague the descriptions of his characters are.

I really enjoy alternative interpretations of Tolkien's world. Jackson's isn't the only possible one!

Wonderful!
I don't begrudge the films their version of things, but it seems that the movies have stomped the creativity out of all the LOTR art that's been created since.
So nice to see someone produce a version that's new!
It truly does look like it belongs as a color leaf in a hardbound leather edition somewhere.

Reminds me a bit of Tolkien's watercolors; I don't know if you were intentionally emulating his style, but it's definitely a compliment!

Looks beautiful! I really agree with one of the earlier commenters: it does look like one of the the original Tolkien illustrations, but it definitely has elements that appear to be unique to your own work as well.

Lovely! This looks like a classic (like from the original publications) Tolkien illustration. Love the colors and forms!

If they ever reprint it they really should have you do the artwork. It would be something beautiful to treasure and pass down.

Seconded! The wisps around Barad-dur look a lot like the swirly patterns in his watercolors.
