Description This is the 21th installment of The Weekly Drawing Series. A series I do for my YouTube channel.
I love drawing gems, they are so much fun to watch evolve during the drawing process.
This time I decided to go with a black background to really bring the green out.
It took 3 1/2 hours to complete.

Do you use accurate references for these drawings? The artwork looks amazing, of course, but real emeralds aren't naturally that clear. Perhaps a different name would better suit this picture.

Interesting but I think it's impossible to determine if the gem is genuine or not just by looking at its photo or drawing!! The real emeralds of course aren't perfectly clear but still they can be of high-clarity.

It's actually pretty easy to recognize the difference between some gems when you spend enough time looking at them. This particular gem appears to have been intentionally drawn without any flaws or inclusions, which is incredibly rare in emeralds, specifically. I don't think I've ever seen a natural emerald with such clarity. A lab generated one, maybe, but not a natural one. Besides, as I mentioned to the artist, the "flaws" in emerald stones give them their own unique beauty. It would be a shame not to acknowledge that if you're going to choose an emerald as the subject of your art.

No, I didn't use an emerald for a reference, just the lighting and shape of some other gem and I made the colors what I liked.

If you haven't ever tried drawing a real emerald before, I suggest looking at some. Their natural cloudy appearance certainly makes for a beautiful gem.

Glad you like it! I've been on a drawing frenzy it feels like, and it nice to be all set up again making videos after I moved.
