Description To see the whole story of my art collection, please check out my Journal "My Science Fiction Story for my Art Collection." fav.me/d5v7u8t

My first landscape painting from scratch on Photoshop.
(my signature can be seen in the bottom right at font 60 in brown-red, its more or less blended in with the grasses)
Took me fucking 45-60 hours at least, a painting like this shouldn't take more then 15 maybe 20 hours, but it took a few days to get into the groove of digital painting trees and mountains, now I feel at home. Also learned so much from this one painting.

Photoshop CS6 trial.
For the mountain, although it was 95% painted with a tablet, I did used some of my rocky textures that I taken pictures of to place onto the mountain and glacier. It helps add a bit of depth in the mountain.
I ALSO used brushes from this professional digital artist.

If I had not stumbled upon his web page I would have never realized you could create a very traditional pieces with Photoshop. So give him some credit.

Story (Quite Brief)

Scenic view on one of the moons of Sunatta. You are on the surface of Serenei looking out across a lake at the distant mountain range.

IF you need a reference to improve your technique, I would recommend looking at Albert Bierdstat's or/and Thomas Morans or Federik Church's work WHILE you do your paintings.
I do that to help me learn faster, this techneque is very useful for every medium of art imaginable.

Feel free to reference from my work if you'd like,to get good at anything most of us have to copy cat someone else before we become intermediates or masters. I don't mind if it looks very similar to mines just link it to me so I can check it out sometime .

Those who have had a decent amount of practice with traditional mediums tend to excel in digital mediums, much like those who have significant practice with graphite tend to excel in acrylics oils and watercolors. The reason why I learned so fast is likely due to my understanding of fundamentals of art;
Composition, texture, color.

to know more about traditional vs digital in terms of training, so far I believe they are both relevant in increasing EXPs. Although which gives MORE exp and for which subject is currently being debated. It's good to play around with both though even if you already declared yourself as a digital or traditional artist.

Valinakova In reply to LarchQue [2012-07-02 04:07:10 +0000 UTC]

The brushes I linked will help a lot also remember to play with opacity, dual brush, and brush poses as well until you get the desired effects.
I will make tutorials on that later.

wow this picture is simply breath taking o-o when i saw it at first i thought it was taken from a camera great job! how did you do this i have been using photoshop for years and cant get anywhere close to that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Valinakova In reply to The-Great-Bunbutchi [2012-06-29 21:08:56 +0000 UTC]

This is actually my 5th or 6th painting done on photoshop, but this is the first one done COMPLETELY from scratch

Click on the link and download the brushes from that guys website and play around with them a lot.
On photoshop cs5 or 6 good quality brushes are probably as important as skill level.

I will be making tutorials hopefully in a few months after I create enough pieces.

thanks ill go check them out i have both cs5 and cs6 and i tried some of their brushes

Almost forgot to tell you something very important, for the mountains, it is actually nice to take some pictures of rocks, use those textures on the mountain, set the textures to very low opacity <20-30% and play with those textures and the smudge tool to help texturize the mountain.

Valinakova In reply to The-Great-Bunbutchi [2012-06-29 21:17:56 +0000 UTC]

No problem, but when you do upload a painting using those brushes, the artist requests (don't think requires) that you give him credit so more people know about these epic brushes.

BEST of LUCK
