I think growing up near your grandparents isn't very usual nowadays.
My grandparents were already pretty old when I was little, and we rarely went to the woods together. I miss the walks with my Mom and Dad though. Maybe I already started making up stories back then.

I was very lucky to be near them for so long. Walks are the best things to keep the family together. With everybody being health conscious, families are doing that more but in Germany(as you know) it was a thing to do on Sunday. Everybody is always out there walking with the family. That hasn't changed has it?

We've probably talked about it, but I don't remember. Where have you lived in Germany?

Never been there either, but my Mom told me once that my Grandpa had relatives there (some very far cousins or so - no idea, we never tried to check this family branch).

I really can't understand how something like this can happen. I've heard about it in general, but only very vaguely, and I'm very concerned about it. Still it is important to see your relatives, especially as you're so far away. The difference must be huge though.

i hope its not the norm for all the small cities in germany. I talk to them thru e-mail but its not the same.

I hope it's not the norm. I really hate that thought.
Mailing is never the same. Neither is the phone. My Mom's only 200 km away, and I don't see her very often. Sometimes it's like returning from a different country.

lol.......... but do go see your mom as often as you can. Mine is gone and one of my regrets is not seeing her as often as I should of.
