Ann,
you must have a green thumb, i have tried to grow orchids ( unsuccessfully ).
I had home with many gardens, one was an indoor greenhouse that i tried to grow orchids.
failed miserably!
all the other plants grew well.
I even had a fig tree outside that had eatable figs..
it was a puzzle to me why i failed at thew orchids!

Mia, I got a couple as a present & already the flowers have died. (Lucky I got photos). My son (an orchid lover) has said they'll be fine (the leaves are very healthy) but that I mustn't water then too much. In fact hardly at all. I keep hoping, and give them a tiny bit once a week - now I worry if they're getting enough 
lLike you, I've grown plants successfully for years. In pots around the house, and in a bush house. It appears that orchids have totally different needs. I even read somewhere, if the temperature drops below, I think it was 15c, then you should bring them inside

Yes, me too. I actually looked them up and you can get some really nice ones - you'd never know the difference and they'd thrive in the airconditioning

i actually had a garden once that i added silk flowers too, in addition to the ones that were blooming. It made the garden looks marvelous. you couldnt tell that some were silk.
my luck... i went to europe for vaca and when i returned, my landscapers had done their yearly "clean-up" and my garden was tilled, and all remnants were gone!!!Β they apparently clean up the gardens in late summer, early fall, thus my 1000 usd worth of silk flowers were alll gone!!!
