Description A visualization of what a rainbow planet might look like. The idea is it's an alien planet in which highly toxic chemicals in a planet's atmosphere causes the planet to look rainbow colored, due to the properties of how these elements reflect light. The idea was directly inspired by super rare and special planets in a game called Star Control II. Rainbow planets were super rare and there were only maybe a half dozen or so of them in the entire galaxy, but their location could be sold to the trader species for lots of credits. You could also find huge deposits of the rarest minerals, but you had to risk the loss of crew members to the planets inhospitable surface, where constant earthquakes and lightning strikes would quickly decimate your tiny surface ship. Star Control II was one of the coolest games I play during that time and had much more replay value and potential play time, compared with other games of the era. Games like No Man Sky, Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen are all spiritual descendants of this game, which is now considered to be one of the best games of all time. It's certainly on my list! I was thinking it would be fun to make a similar game system, only with procedural planets and stars and not full 3D, but isometric and MMO.
