I've been actually itching to draw something that isn't a strip for a while, and I have to admit, this was incredibly fulfilling. I kind of tried some new stuff, and some things aren't great in here but it was fun to do.This is Mercutio Vondrasek (not the Shakespeare character, but obviously the name is from it!). He usually doesn't smoke giant cigars but it sort of fit the picture and everything, so there he is.
It was mostly a practice in his body language, and getting his face shape and hairstyle 'right' in my mind. I think it worked out okay. I can already see his massive layers being annoying to draw in the future though, especially panel to panel. BUT OH WELL. The comic will probably be a practice in 'let us see how fast Tessa gets tired of drawing his layers and therefore stripping him slowly'. I look forward to it too.
So yes. I would try to like talk more about him (cos I adore him) but words are not easy for me today.

usually for the original layout of a character ill have them wearing jackets and hats ect, ect.
but when i have to keep drawing more and more, i usually dumb down their outfits. aha

There are two elements of your drawings that I've been dying to ask you about. First, is that two-toned dot pattern in the background a texture? And second, how do you add texture to only small portions of the drawing (i.e. without overlapping, etc.)?

I'm not Vert, but I know the answer to the second question:
If you are using Photoshop, you can use something called MASKS. I know four types of masks, and I believe the one you will use for a pattern will be either layer mask or vector mask. There are tutorials that describe this and my signature tutorial has a section for masks.

I use Photoshop Elements, and I've been trying to figure out masks since day one. Elements is not the simplest version, at least to my knowledge anyway. Thanks for telling me the names, I'd never have found them. And even if I had, I'd never be able to tell which was for what.

And since I don't know what you look like, Merc's now stripping on a stage in front of an overly-enthusiastic (but not in any sort of sexual way, more like 'wowsers!, I'm in a stripclub') Hanna, completely unenthusiastic Zombie, and 'gaah!
