Description This is the prize for one of the winners of my Watcher Contest, theLostSindar .
Their request was for Wolf Link from Twilight Princess, in either realistic or chibi form, with this lovely little number by MinjiXMuu-chan as a reference.
When I saw that thumb, I immidiately thought of aphid777 's derpy animal patterns, and never looked back This little guy is adapted from her Baby Umbreon (with pattern) .
First I made it larger by holding my grey yarn doubled and  using a 5mm hook. Once the body, head and tail were done, I made triangles for the ears and a rectangle for the mane. The white markings (except for the eyebrows and forehead symbol) I corcheted in pieces holding the white yarn singly, after which I joined all the pieces so I could just sew it all on in one go around the edge. After that, I brushed him out with a pet brush, then needle felted on the face and pink inner ears.

The sewing and brushing was a bit of work, but he turned out so cute, I think I may just have to make one for myself sometime down the line

Here are the other prizes:

Crocheted, sewn AND needle felted? I...wow. At first I thought it was straight up needle felted till I looked at the bottom. The combination of techniques is...simply amazing. It looks SO GOOD. And SO cute! ♥

Aww, thanks love, that means so much I'm totally flattered you think I could needle felt something that well (and that big!) but I sooooo don't have the patience for needle felting on it's own - details only, and i still usually manage to stab myself a couple times

Sarinilli In reply to Vivacia18 [2015-02-08 17:23:16 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha well I've wanted to try out needle felting before myself and...never had the guts to even try it; didn't ever think it could be used as an addition to something else, so you've inspired some possible future ideas for me to try out. ^_^
As for stabbing...ugh, yeah. I can totally see that happening a lot. That's the part I don't necessarily look forward to. haha

I'm glad I gave you some inspiration! It's pretty cool both as it's own craft and for embellishments in that you can pretty much just dive in and get decent results - that was the big thing that attracted me to the craft in the first place. One thing I do recommend is to buy plenty of needles to start out - they snap easily if your not careful to keep them straight, especially when your holding one by hand rather than keeping them in a pen tool (great for big swaths, but not so much for fine detail). Oh, and an old pillow or something is great to work on, you don't have to buy fancy brush or styrofoam work surfaces.
And I wouldn't worry too much about stabbing yourself - so long as your paying attention and not working on something too small, you don't have to worry too much. I'm just a masochistic multi-tasker - no sane person needlefelts while simultaneously watching a new show with subtitles and fending off their overly curious cat

Hahaha well, if you saw my work area you may be concerned for my fingers; but it's also away from my computer and TV's for a reason. *laughs*

And thanks for the heads up; I didn't know if I should just get a basic kit and call it good or not. I'll make sure to get extra needles when I do. ^_^

Lol, I think most peoples work area's are like that in the end - we only pretty them up when we have company to impress or something

No worries, glad to help ^^ I actually just remembered two more good tips - one is that you don't have to use roving wool, though that does save you a step. You can just brush out regular yarn (or even leave it as is if you want the lined texture). And if your making something bulky, you can save on your yarn/roving by needle felting stuffing (eg for dolls or pillows) for the bulk of the project, then just covering the surface with your colour - great when you only have a little bit to work with, and I find it works up faster too ^^

Pillow stuffing..as centers..so you're basically treating it like any plush only the outside is perma-attached. That...is brilliant. Thank you so much! o_o ♥

Indeed! And really, I may have thought about that down the line..but not after wasting colors for a while. *laughs*

So cute   You did a splendid job with the brushing, the fur is very long; I just can't do it, I always end with gaps between the stitches.

Thanks love I think the fact that I had the yarn held double helped a lot with the brushing out - the white sections where I held the yarn singly I had to be a bit more careful not to tear (and in one place I actually did, but I was able to needle felt it back into place  )

Ohhhhh I love him! So cute - very nicely done!

What kind of pet brush did you use?

Vivacia18 In reply to TheEmeraldStitch [2015-01-31 15:08:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks love

I used the pet zoom - I think my brother or dad got it for the dogs, then kinda forgot about it, because I eventually found it in a junk drawer in the house. I claimed it for my needle felting because the bristles retract when you push a button, so you never lose any of the yarn you brush out
