Description This is a picture of the Latimer Home in Horn Lake, MS. Soon this 95 year old home will be history. No, not put on the historical register. Gone. Because the city and contractors are too cheap to fix it up. Supposedly it'll cost "too much money" to fix it up. This is one of the only things left in this small town that's real history. The family that previously owned it was one of the biggest influences on the community. But ever since they've failed to be able to restore it. They ended up dying before they could fix it. But they left it to the city and the city recently sold it to contractors. So some of the pieces of the house are being stored by the city and they're going to tear it down for commerical developement. It's on 2.3 acres. But within this area are at least 40 acres within just a square mile or so. 40 acres zoned and empty, reading for commercial use. This is one reason why when I'm old and retired, I'm going to be living on a boat.

As of 7/19/2008 the lot is still empty. Oh, and I don't want to live on a boat anymore.

The house doesn't even look like there is a need to tear it down. The atmosphere in the pic is great
Why people do stuff like that? for profit. A home that needs restauration is for no use when it stands on ground that could be used to.. build a giant shopping mall (just an example). Thats the way life's going, as long as we're not able to decide whether a house can "stay" or has to be torn, we will have to watch, don't we?
We will never be able to save our past the way we would want to. there's always something that ruins our plans, be it a storm or a corrupt banker.

Ah, I hate when people tear down history and heritage. It's like going into a library, picking up the oldest, most important history text and burning to ash. That is a beautiful monument of the past; it's like a tomb stone to our ancestors. They really should have left it be.

Oh, that's a really nice picture. You got it with the snow and everything. That makes me sad for a lot of reasons...yours and others that I'm sure you could guess. The way that whole area has built up in just the past five years is ridiculous. There's still plenty of empty fields to build pointless stores in...I don't know why they think they have to tear the house down. I guess it would just become condemned and sit there, but I'd rather that. Like that other smaller one down the street from the school. The sad truth is that no one cares about history. It's not something I'm looking forward to dealing with everyday for the rest of my life...I'm about to start babbling incoherently, so I will stop now....
