Personality:
People who have met Dan have often commented that the young man possesses a mysterious air and aloof front-- that is, until he opens his mouth. Despite his profession as a thief, Dan is easygoing to strangers and acquaintances and never does anything that is too out of line. However, even though he is a friendly (and sometimes naive) person who is ready to meet and greet any living and breathing organism, it is very difficult for others to get past the stage of acquaintanceship to one of friendship as Dan does not easily really let people in. Once that he finally trusts a person, he is willing to put out anything on the line, but once the person preforms an action that breaks that trust, Dan may just as easily cut off all connections with him or her.
He believes that humans are innately good, but gradually brainwashed by what society wants them to believe. Thus, he is very reluctant to hurt children and would even go as far as giving little street rats a piece of bread to eat or a few coins when no one else is watching. With that said, if there were to be a conflict, Dan prefers to solve it as quickly as possible, as painlessly as possible.
When doing his job, Dan is calm and efficient with various back up plans. But when he is off duty, he is often seen staring off dumbly into space, saying unknowingly embarrassing things, and "wow"ing at the newest technology due to the fact that he is not too familiar with them.
History:
His name had been Song Yu. Song (宋), to honor the surname of his paternal side, and Yu (雨), to remember the rainy day that he was brought to the world. But he kept that name for barely four month before the neighboring gang raided the slums for infants and changed their birth names to ones of weeds. There was Poppy, Sorrel, Caper...and then there was him, Dandelion, but commonly known as Dan.
It wasn't uncommon for gangs to snatch up infants, raise them, and use them as the prime transporters for their illegal drug trades as no one ever suspected innocent children to be participants of such activities. Just like that, Dan spent his childhood with the gang and the other children his age, carrying out orders and learning the basics of reading strangers, escape tactics, and theft. At first, the gang was in awe at Dan's remarkable accomplishments, but when light pushes knocked playmates to the ground and running a two hour trip was made possible in just half an hour, the gang leader became highly suspicious of Dan's gift.
No sooner after Dan turned ten, he, along with several other children, began to sprout rabbit ears on the top of their heads Realizing that these kids were victims of the "disease", the gang leader locked the group in a cell and put down orders for their execution the next morning. Luckily, the night before the execution, a few of the others, all normal children in the same trade, risked sneaking a sleeping bomb from the arsenal to put down the guard, and picked the lock of the cell to set the rabbits free. With teary goodbyes and each with a pouch of jewels that the normal children reaped from the treasury, the rabbits each went their separate ways.
Dan knew that he couldn't stay in the area for long, and that the gang leader would send immediate orders to capture and kill their group due to the fact that they were aware of most of the gang's secrets. Luck once again proved to be in his favor as he found an older woman who had the same rabbit ears as him. With hours of crying and pleading, the older rabbit finally agreed to take him under his wing and sheltered him for the next ten years in her own hideout where Dan used the skills that he learned when he was young to bring back food and money. However, good days did not last long as the Chinese government made orders to send troop to every lodging area in an attempt to weed out those with the "disease". Not wanting to leave her homeland but having no choice, the older rabbit took Dan with her to board a ship to Pearson City that was operated by fellow rabbits, telling Dan that they must return to the rabbit hideout known as BJBB that she once was a part in in order to survive.
