Hmm maybe leather over steel cap?, not really sure.

The front looks very solid, but the the back of the helm looks pretty fragil. This guy looks like he is wearing a heavy armor, a helmet that covers his whole head would benefit the armor vibe instead of a solid front-fragile back which is similiar to a welding helmet.
Im not an expert for armor, so i could be wrong (~ΛβΎΛ)~
