After several months of neglecting Kirby's birthday (and my own), I've finally finished his birthday tribute!

It's his 23rd already...the pink puffball grows up quickly. It's also the fourth(?) birthday tribute for Kirby that I've done so far since I started using dA. I won't link to the previous three here, but since I've built up a gallery filled with him, the progression is...definitely evident, heh. Drawing Kirby's birthday tribute each time his birthday comes around is always a personal milestone for me (since it is, after all, my birthday as well), and each year brings more improvement than the one before.

This year's tribute is in watercolor, and I tried a lot of new things to mimic what I used to do digitally. It's been a while since I've done anything entirely digital, but I'm surprised that my inclinations for digital art have carried over well into watercolor. Sparkly textured space backgrounds are just as fun to do on paper as in photoshop.

But that said, one of the things I've been vowing to do is to draw things beyond my fandom comfort zone [x So I may be diversifying my art a little bit from now on, and drawing things from different source materials, maybe even my own. But that's not to say I won't ignore drawing my gijinkas. 'Cause even though I find myself saying that a lot, I still ending up coming back to drawing the same few characters xD
